He could make an even longer acceptance speech.

I really loathe the Oscars. It's pretentious and political, but I would be overjoyed for Pesci. 2 time Oscar Winner, nobody could possibly sleep on his talent after that. From what I have read, he is playing a very different role to that of Goodfellas and Casino, and I'm happy about that. No one tricky pony here.

Why anyone would spend negative energy on something they could ignore is beyond me. I'd suggest you to simply enjoy the performance rather than wishing "pretentious and political" ppl. awarding it. I enjoy the Oscars for what it is.

Was about to say the same thing, and I don't think I'm able to pick a better martial arts movie. Ever. Original Raid is a 10/10, though at times Raid 2 outshone it, the original prevails where Dredd, Drive and Fury Road delivers: sidelining the unnecessary story and letting action dictate plot. Plus the Mad Dog fight.

I can't recall but wasn't it his brother in the sequel? Watching his assassination was difficult.

I literally do ignore the Oscars, but you made reference to it and I briefly, for all of 2 seconds, mentioned that I think it lacks credibility.

Apologies if this offended you in anyway.

P. S. should I buy you a Chinese Oscars replica? You know you want one.

It has indeed been a truly crappy ten years for movies overall, but I Enjoyed 'Three Billboards...' very much, along with the various Tarantino efforts - though nowhere close to matching his initial burst - and though it is a bit early to say, I'm pretty certain Joker will end up close to the top of the pile. Just squeaking in at the beginning of the decade, Super stands out as a great, great effort too.

No honestly, I wasn't trying to upset you. If you enjoy the Oscars, that's your prerogative pal. :)
You literally said you'd "overjoyed" about a "pretentious and political" event, I'm upset how undecided u r nearing 30 mate. I care about you, Peds, you know I do.

Great movie! Not sure how crap the decade was... say compared to the 2000s, surely lots of solid entries in both, was 2010s really that worse?

I think there's been a steady decline since the 80s, accelerated in more recent years obviously by the proliferation of superhero movies and sub-par cgi. I still enjoy going to the cinema these days, but the choice on offer is very often between big dumb blockbusters and incredibly limited niche appeal efforts. Smart, witty action movies for instance have pretty much disappeared entirely.

Personally I thought I made my point quite clear, but obviously not.

The Oscars is a dumpster fire. Obviously. But winning an Oscar carries a lot of weight within the industry and another win would only enhance Pesci's standing among his contemporaries. It would be fantastic for his legacy as an actor. 'Overjoyed' is probably overdoing it, but I'd be happy for him.

Hopefully this clears up any confusion....

Off the top of my head, I've seen one for certain, and it was El Camino. I have nothing else to say about that but I see I've been tagged so I have to say something, I guess.

How about best animated movie of the decade? I do not distinguish them from live action normally, but it would be a shame if we missed this discussion as they mostly fly under the radar. Notice how I've left out Pixar movies - not that I didn't enjoy the Inside Outs of the decade, they had little impact on me however, first half of WALL-E was the last Prime Pixar Time. That was 11 years ago.

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (2013)
Stunningly beautiful Japanese folk tale by the late and great Takahata Isao (Grave of the Fireflies), the painting-like, soft visual style is an artistic masterclass and the simple, yet emotionally rich story just delivers. Too bad Studio Ghibli dies with its masters, and thx God Miyazaki Hayao is doing another "final one".

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
So much creativity, gags and visual swag put into this, it really feels nex-gen. Kinda everything and the kitchen sink per story, characters and differing visuals meshed into one, but somehow creators thrive rather than drown it it. Really fun pic.

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)
Laika's best stop-motion movie yet, also absolutely delivering on visuals (notice the theme here?), strong on storytelling and features actual villains that are actually scary. A film that definitely stays with you.

It's Such a Beautiful Day
Don Hertzfeldt's hour-long pencil drawing ride into a shattered psyche might just be my top pick here, even if it's not even feature length. No other moving picture, animated or whatever managed to visualize one completely losing his grip on reality this well, and while it's not an easy watch, I've seen it like 4 times and find a lot of gags in it.

Your Name. (2016)
Corny love story with corny colorful 2D/3D visual style mash with corny animated master Shinkai Makoto - and it still delivers and a hugely entertaining, oft-puzzling, visually striking and modern enough tale. I know that ppl. here are man enough to admit they love this, and I liked it too, so it has a place on my list.

Fantastic Mr. Fox... wait what, more than a deace old? FFS

Ruben Brandt, Collector (2018)
Visuals? Yep, you've guessed it, this bonkers crazy avant-garde ride is light on story but full of 2D animated creativity, giving homage to early & mid-20th century art.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)
As dark as it gets for a kids themed animated movie: tragedy, fate, responsibility - besides looking awesome, 2 touches on some serious stuff.

Song of the Sea (2014)
Another one that's small on scale but giant on heart, an Irish fairy-tale with unique visuals and a strong story, I could watch movies like this over and over again.
