Official CHB online CHESS tournament (underway)

  • CHB will be closing down as of 31st July 2021. It's been a brilliant experience to run the website for the past 9 years, however it's time for me to move onto different projects. Thanks to every single person involved, from staff, former staff, posters old and current. All support means more than anyone knows. Thanks for your understanding.

Yeah I wondered on that but I didn't like the pressure from the time limit. When I play I take ages usually. You kinda steamrolled me.
I play a lot of bullet chess (too much really)

But that does help you to be able to play fast fairly well.

But I try to slow it down when I have time.

Just ran it through the analysis. On move 12 I missed a obvious fork of your king and queen with my knight.

Should have went to the H file with my knight (a time when going to the edge of the board would have been advisable).

Damn I could have checkmated you earlier. I didn't even need to sacrifice that knight.

Eh ..

Welcome to CHB's first ever online chess tournament!

We will use lichess.org to conduct our games. However, as a result of time differences I think it's best if we use lichess' editor tool to play some games.

https://lichess.org/editor

How does that work?

-Whoever is white moves first
-white then copies the url and pastes it on here like so;
https://lichess.org/editor/rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/4P3/PPPP1PPP/RNBQKBNR_w_KQkq_-_0_1
-as you can see I've moved the prawn forward winks
-then black simply opens the same url, takes his or her (lol) move, copies the new url and pastes it on here again

Why can't we just play normally ura?

Well you can of course. The editor is just there for games where it's difficult for both players to commit to a few hours of chess, as we all know everyone has different schedules. Use lichess to conduct your games if you can, if not just use the editor as stated above.

Can I take a screenshot of the board instead of the url?

Do what you like for fuck sake.

What about trolls who post suggestions or interfere with the games?

Anyone who interferes with someone else's game will be banned. It's simple; this is a gentleman's game, if you think it's ok as an adult to go up to two men playing chess and ruin their game you are a knobhead and also retarded. Go be retarded in another thread.

I'll seed you all based on how good you are. I think @DynamicMoves is very good so he'll be number 1 seed going into the tournament.

I play occasionally with my girl so I'm about low/medium level. For the purposes of this thread dynamicmoves is Grandmaster level.

Post if you'd like to join. I hope we get a least...4 members joining. Ideally more. Even if you don't play chess it's just a bit of fun.

Edit: Confirmed players

1-ura (beginner)
2-broxi (beginner)
3-johnstown (Competent)
4-DynamicMoves (Competent)
I'm in.

Few things though

  1. I'm not yet on lichess
  2. my elo on chess.com is 1800
  3. I fear correspondence chess for the obvious reasons, therefore I propose we are allowed to analyse a game once its finished and make any necessary inferences.

Great.

1-it's fine it took me 2 minutes to sign up, though if the other player agrees I'm sure you can play on chess.com
2-is 1800 good? Sounds like the "Competent" bracket
3-that's perfectly reasonable

The winner of the tournament will be crowned CHB's very own Grandmaster.

I'll make an account, no drama.

1800 is alright, nothing to write home about though.
