Just had an interesting conversation with a friend re Jimmy Wilde. His record was truly amazing. 143-139-3-1, 99 wins by K/O. He was about 5ft 2ins and weighed about 108lbs. , he fought bantams and even featherweights. Nat Fleischer, rated him as the greatest flyweight ever. I have looked up some of the great flyweights over the past 60 years , Benny Lynch, Pascuel Perez,Yoshio Shirai, Dado Marino, all great fighters , but none could compare with "the "Mighty Atom" . Wilde fought from1910 until 1923, there are rumours that he fought over 800 times over this period , in booths all over the country, highly unlikely but there is evidence that he did partake in many bouts in booths. H was born in 1892 and died in 1969. In 1965 he was "mugged" on a railway station and never recovered. Like a lot of fighters Jimmy ended up "skint". He was inducted into the IBHOF in 1990, a great fighter , British, European, and the First Universally recognised World Flyweight champion in 1916. I appreciate that we all have opinions about various fighters but I truly believe that the "Mighty Atom" would have survived and prospered in any era, what do you all think ? Great fight coming up this Saturday from MSG , USA. Terence Crawford v Felix Diaz .Crawford is 30-0 with 21 K/O"s, Diaz is 19-1 with 9 K/O"s. Diaz lost to Lamont Peterson on his last outing. On paper there should only be one winner, Crawford. There is no one in the super -lightweight division to touch him . Since winning the title from Burns he has moved up a division, and he is something special. This is his Fifth defence at this weight , will he move up again?, waiting forhim are likes of Pacqiao,Thurman,Danny Garcia, what a mouthwatering choice he would have at that level. The fight is on Box - Nation at out 2AMSundaymorning . Really looking forward to it. Mervyn The Gee

Wilde is famous for his power and ko record so some might think of him as a little brawler/slugger type but he was actually a hands low elusive mover with great timing and spacial awarness. Patient, crafty, slick and one of the GOAT finishers.

They say he was named 'Ghost with The Hammer in his Hand' due to his pasty skin and huge power but I think the Ghost part could have been due to his ability to anticipate his opponents next move, beat them to the punch and move out of range.

And @Trail I think this little fella beats yer man Naz as the most naturally talented fighter to come out of the UK :good

I hope he fights Idongo next to fully unify before moving up to 147lb. He can then start getting the fights to give him the recognition he deserves, I'd say he's still fairly unknown outside of hard-core fans

Jimmy Wilde vs Benny Lynch in my opinion is the greatest UK fantasy match. Actually one of the greatest ever. Both of them big punchers, Wilde definitely being the freakish puncher of the two but Lynch had clubbing power due to his bull like physical strength. Both had excellent footwork with Lynch being more a springs for legs in and out type with Wilde being the more elusive and smoother laterally. Both had tremendous fighting spirits and Iron jaws. This fight is fucking mouth watering tbh.

change the threat title to Crawford v Diaz.

Diaz is being seriously disrespected going in to this fight. He will be Crawfords best win.

I'm looking forward to this. As said above I had Diaz winning the fight against Peterson, he beat Vasquez comfortably since then too. Obviously I think Crawford will win but this is a very good fight, and a good win for Crawford if he wins, especially if it's in impressive fashion.

This fight and the Davis vs Walsh fight, 2 very good bouts this weekend. Been a great year so far.

I don't think Diaz beat Peterson, but I don't think Diaz is being disrespected. This will be a competitive fight, but I still believe thatCrawford is a notch above Diaz and could possibly stop him in the middle rounds, still I" m looking forward to watching whatI hope will be a v ery entertaining fight. @thegee

Mr Gee, when you first signed up for this fine forum @Stilton and @all at sea warned you to avoid any discourse with a poster called @Rob...

This @fanboxrankings person currently polluting your thread is in fact @Rob in a new guise.

I urge (yes URGE) you not to respond to his posts as he is (once again) trying to provoke an argument.

A petty, small minded, egotist that blights this place with his juvenile antics.
