@thegee Have you read the article in this week's Boxing News about how people use social media and forums to discuss boxing? This very forum even got a mention!

As a respected member of the boxing community, it would be cool if you could send them a letter about how enjoyable it is to post on here. Might even get a few new people to signup :good
Bought Boxing News last night but I haven't got to the article about social media yet. I'll be toasting us when I get there.

Which fight were the judges watching in the Ritson fight.? One gave it 9-1 another 8-1. yes, he won the fight , I gave it to him by Two rounds, but these people should not be judges. Regards Mervyn The Gee

I was reading boxing news yesterday and the social media article was very good.

I am not on social media and agree that sadly forums seem to be on the wane compared to twitter as an example.

When living in London I had friends that watched boxing but only two who I could really discuss in deep the nuances of the sport weight divisions etc and I hope that doesn't come across as a boxing snob as I will discuss the sport with anyone with any knowledge of boxing,

I post here and OTH and before that ESB and despite the arguments petty at times forums are a godsend for me.

I don't live in the UK now and meet even less people with a real understanding of boxing, forums long may they continue and hats off to the guys that run them.

Had it 6-4 to Ritson and yet another display of bad judging.

Lewis Ritson is a game but limited fighter if he continues to campaign at 140 he is going to be in a lot of fights higher up the food chain where he will be out boxed, his advantages north of lightweight are negated he is a good Euro level fighter but I can't see him going any further.

I'm on Off The Hook Boxing, here, Boxingscene and Twitter (for news mainly, I rarely tweet). I don't fuck about with facebook as it's for ten year-old girls.

A friend of mine who is hardcore in boxing, knows shitloads of boxers, has met loads of others he doesn't know and knows his stuff so much, he won't touch boxing forums at all, maintains a load of them are full of cunts. He does have a point.

Yes have known a few boxers myself and the anonymous aspect of forums will of course put people off each to their own I guess I just don't live in an area where boxing is thriving, don't live in the UK anymore and I miss the boxing people I knew and know :good

I don't agree with everything I read, nor do all agree with what I post. rightly so,decent opinion is all I look for and I can take the WUM's with a pinch of salt.

The positive for me is reading some great analysis and opinion which may differ from mine and reading some insightful posts that open and share the good and bad of boxing. The amount of fights I have called wrong let alone right it's what it's about, discussing fighters career paths and not being blinded by bias media coverage amen to the forums for that.

As a middle aged dinosaur from the days of reading results in boxing news and listening to fights on the radio and treated to the odd fight live on BBC or ITV it's all good for me the bad I can ignore.

Generally most of us love the game and once bitten it's a lifelong passion as you know, the times in my adult life I have worked in jobs and heard so much negativity around boxing, barbaric, ban it etc I wish forums had been around decades ago.

There's some excellent posters on boxing forums, some can break a fight down better than I can, some know fifty times more about the fight game than I do (and I'm quite well read). It's superb reading what some people know and the knowledge they impart.

I'll always stay on OTH, CHB, ESB and Boxingscene. Though, as is the case in life generally, the minority of idiots on these sites often spoil it for the majority. Twitter I'll use for bang up to date news, I tweet very infrequently.

Cheers, really appreciate that. I loved posting on BoxRec and enjoy this place as it has more traffic than BR (plus I've got two lifetime bans over there for pointing out that mercman is having a midlife crisis, he proved me correct with the ban then told John Shep I'd been 'ride and abusive' when justifying it, then bumping the midlife crisis thread every two days so it stayed high up the OT section when I was "allowed" back in by the insufferable tit). The demise of forums, to an extent, is one of the big problems in boxing. People within the trade used to moan about them, but they'd always look at them and I have had chats at fights with people about CHB, in particular the thread about The Doyen.

One of my faviourite forum moments was someone at BoxingScene responding to an article I did about pre-Pavlik Jermain Taylor with something along the lines of 'These black guys always stick up for each other'. Rick had to point out that I'm a white Englishman.

Well if it doesn't get published, thanks for trying. I appreciate it!

There is a show from Belfast tomorrow that will be on YouTube. This will be headlined by Conrad Cummings (16-2-1, 7KOs) trying to avenge a loss last year against Luke Keeler (15-2-1, 5KOs). I will post the video for you when it's available tomorrow.

On Saturday, there's a show in Liverpool that will be on Sky Sports Action from 7pm. And at 2:30am, BoxNation are showing Oleksandr Gvozdyk defending his WBC light heavyweight title against Doudou Ngumbu.

Kash Ali looked like a complete novice last night, yet it took Price a disqualification to beat him. Price is destined o get beaten every time he steps up in class. Eggington should retire from boxing, he was given a hiding by Smith , and he is not going to improve.Regards Mervyn The Gee

Ali should never get a licence back. His performance was pathetic, he looked and behaved like a complete novice, and this after fifteen fights. Regards Mervyn The Gee

Another great issue of Boxing News this week. Two articles stand out , one by Thomas Hearns and the other by Martin Murray.I have been taking this magazine for the past sixty years and there is always something in there for the real boxing fan. Regards Mervyn The Gee

Watched the boxing on Box Nation last night, must admit I was"nt terribly impressed, perhaps it"s just me?Regards Mervyn The Gee
It's a shame because there was a really good show on in Poland at the same time. In fact, one of the fights on that show was the best I've seen this year so far.

Speaking of that fight, I'm currently in the process of obtaining a copy and uploading it for everyone to watch :good
