What a fair weather fan!

I've never set foot in the same hemisphere as the Colts, the guy who was the only reason I chose them to support in the first place has retired from the game at the age of 24, they've won about five games in the last two years, and I STILL don't talk shit on them like this.

hell fuck no

hideous uniforms, awful fans

Imma gonna pray to the ghost of Steve Grogan and hope for the best [no brutal beatings] while Billy executes his master three year rebuild

:banana
Steve Grogan might be an extremely apt analogy. Historically, he's the only running threat the Patriots have ever had at QB until now. They led the NFL with 34 dropped passes last season, so maybe a QB with the ability to run is a suitable replacement for Tom.

The last time Cam played at Foxborough, he won.

I don't know what to think of their chances at a winning season, but Kurt Warner's already said Newton's capable of doing what Warner did at Arizona, and it's still the Hoodie at HC, the worst coach for any opponent in the NFL to sell short.

They needed somebody along with Stidham at QB. Now the team has some quality competition for that position. I'm a bit surprised Bill didn't make a play to get Brissett back, but he's achieved far too much for me to second guess his judgment now.

I'm still a Jets fan, and even with Darnold being much better than people think, we still might be more likely to end up with Trevor Lawrence with how terrible our franchise is.
I'm sure swapping out Darnold will immediately stop their O-line from being paper thin, a single RB from sucking up all their cap space, and Adam Gase from being a mediocre coach.

Oh believe me, Darnold is not the problem. The Jets are the problem, and don't think for a second that they wouldn't take Lawrence if they ended up with the #1 pick. The Jets organization fucking sucks.

they DO need a good solid backup if Stidham is really the choice of the future...........

I think this might show he isnt...................they want someone to start NOW,and it aint going to be Stidham I reckon

the cuts on all sides of the ball look to me to be too deep.....................cleaning house and starting over deep even..............

Well, since 2001, Bill has generated wins while replacing everybody (including Tom) except himself and his boss.

You're going in two different directions here. Either he's tanking the season by going with Stidham, or he's NOT tanking the season by going with Newton. I suspect he was waiting to see if there would even be a 2020 season, but the NFL now seems prepared to play with the presumption there may not be any fan attendance.

Belichick, like Reid and Carroll, has a formidable structure in place which transcends individual personnel, and his overall direction had them moving towards the defense and run oriented game which gained the franchise their first three and last SB titles. Only Andy's been better than Bill at rebuilding on the fly while continuing to win (and even that's arguable, but Reid's gotten to the playoffs and SB with more different QBs).

Now we know that Michel played through last season injured, and losing David Andrews (this era's Matt Light) before it even began was devastating.

He obtained Cam on an incentive laden single season contract for a dirt cheap price ahead of reportedly massive salary cap space opening up for 2021. Edelman, the brilliant Slater (potential HOFer) and the McCourty twins (Devin a probable entry into Canton) seem to be onboard with this signing. (Aside from Brady, the veteran leadership corps of this roster has remained intact, something not to be overlooked. Matthew, Devin, Jules and David have tenure and multiple rings.)

@SwollenGoat is just being a fucking asshole. He knows all of this DAMN WELL. He just wants to hedge. If they suck he can be like "See? I told you!" And if they're good, he can just laugh at those of us with perpetually fucked franchises. That motherfucker

Over the years, he's had repeated reactionary temper tantrums over Patriots misfortunes I've had to calm him down over with soothing replies.

New Englanders love their stoics. They probably expelled him, banished him to my Florida homeland. Now their sports successes in this millennium have spoiled him rotten, like a rich brat...

His love of farming, surfing, pickup trucks, and sleeping are what brought him to Florida.

The fact that New Englanders aren't universally excited about Cam is crazy to me. He's the closest thing to a 1 man offense POSSIBLE in the NFL. Maybe his veganism has ruined him, but I'd be excited as hell in their shoes.

Cam's arrival's indeed triggered massive discussion here (I'm now in the NH/VT/MA Tri State region), but nobody can ever replace Brady, any more than someone replacing Luckman with the Bears or Baugh with the Redskins. But if sparking interest in a franchise locals may have given up on with Tom's departure was the goal, getting Newton on the team has clearly reversed that. A sky high established standard will sustain the rest.

Frankly, my hope is simply for a winning season, pulling Bill within reach of Landry's all time record for consecutive winning campaigns. (Belichick can always break Shula's record, and Tomlin may be young enough to eventually set that mark with longer seasons, but 21 straight winning seasons may be unreachable.)

Cam was on his way to another MVP level season when he fucked up his foot and shoulder. He's a mobile qb...those 2 things are required to play at all. He tried playing through it the next season, and it showed for the couple games he tried playing.

He looks like he's been juiced up with the kinda shit that grows bones back together. I get the perception, but I wouldn't count Cam out yet. He has the kind of mind that will fight with everything it has to push through that sorta thing. His body has gotten time away from being beaten to shit, and NE will figure out a way to protect him better than Carolina did. I imagine almost any team in the NFL other than the JETS would protect him better than Carolina did.

We will see. He's a motivated motherfucker and he's on a path to destroy every single team that didn’t call his phone.

The obvious problem with Newton is that he looked fucked at the back end of last season, the whole tone was very negative, people discussed retirement and so on, so I'm not sure he's worth more than what the Patriots have paid. If it works out, obviously he's worth far more, but the Panthers must have knowledge about him that made them pick Bridgewater, who Newton at 80% is better than, and what about the Redskins? Rivera chose to sign Kyle Allen ahead of Newton, so he must think Cam is done too.

Hopefully he is back to good form but I don't see the low offer as "disgusting" unlike what Richard Sherman said. There's a reason that no team was interested, but if he was 80% of the player he used to be, he'd have a lot of teams chasing him and throwing big money his way.
