I feel bad for Spong. So much potential, but his management team sucks, and they probably jumped at this "way too soon" chance for the spotlight out of desperation.

This is the kind of thing that destroys promising careers.

I definitely give Spong a chance, but not a good one.

The irony is Sprong is actually 2 years older than Usyk.

Wow, that's unbelievable!

Still, it doesn't change the fact that this is way too big a step. Maybe they figure, it's now or never.
Plus Spong certainly does have a small chance of catching Usyk and putting him away.
But the likely outcome is obvious.

Sprong's got really nice fast hands but doesn't move his exposed chin and over relies on his feet to get him out of trouble. Uysk will stalk him and slow him down for six rounds, then pull the trigger more in the last six. Uysk by stoppage in the 8th.

Spong has been training with Pedro Diaz since forever but I don't really see it in his fights. He packs a punch though so Usyk better be careful.

Why do Matchroom feel the need to take Usyk back about 3 levels?

This is a shit fight for both fighters.

Crap, negligent matchmaking.

Don't know too much about Spong but he looks like he has an absolutely murderous overhand right.

Most of the fights on YT are kickboxing and MMA, Usyk has a far higher boxing ability but he better steer clear of that right hand or we could see a crazy upset.

FWIW this is Spong's second to last fight, from 2018.
I think I time stamped it but if not, it starts at the 9:30 mark.
Note how he gets rocked by the first left hook that lands and again by that jab that follows seconds later. He gets hurt again a bit later @ 1:47.
Dude can bang but seems pretty chinny. Honestly Usyk with his experience, skills and ring intelligence should have a field day.

I though Usyk took Gassiev's power fairly well in the Super Series. Similarly with Bellew. Spong can bang, but Usyk is out to stop him.
I think the dumbest thing Usyk can do is to try and stop him. That would give Spong, who probably hits harder than Gassiev, a chance. - Especially because Spong has deceptively good defensive footwork, so if Usyk attacks, Spong will have many chances to counter.

Usyk's huge advantages in this fight are his athleticism and his reach, so the obvious plan is to stay outside and go for a comfortable UD. If a KO comes, then fine, but don't go looking for it.

Spong tests positive so now we will get an even shitter opponent, in a perfect world they would just make Usyk vs Chisora on the 26th and put it as the main event but that will never happen

Eddie should have suggested they hold a meeting, suppress the information and just go ahead with the fight. Worked with Whyte.

I agree with you - Usyk's output for a cruiser/heavy is unbelievable. Usyk doesn't have one punch power, but he could likely stop Spong very late on with attrition.

I do think Spong was hand picked to make Usyk's heavyweight debut notable. Spong was dire against Perea.

He's been a naughty boy! On the gear.

Going for kickboxing to boxing is just setting you up for failure. Muay Thai and K-1 is actually very focused on kicks, punches aren't really scored along with wider gloves. You're bringing this guy into a sport where you can't use kicks....at all, and your punches aren't as developed
