I see these types of thing on Twitter enough, so should be easy to cover!

For instance, on this day 19 years ago, Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera began one of boxing's most thrilling trilogy's. On the undercard, rising contender Antonio Margarito would stop a then-unkown Sergio Martinez in the 7th round.

On a Don King show in Argentina 21 years ago, Nana Yaw Konadu knocked out Abraham Torres in the second round to successfully defend his WBA bantamweight title:

The main event saw Juan Carlos Gomez dethrone WBC cruiserweight champion Marcelo Fabian Dominguez with a 12-round unanimous decision. Gomez would go on to defend the WBC title ten times before vacating and moving up to heavyweight.

On this day in 1964 Muhammad Ali then known as Cassius Clay defeated Sonny Liston to win the World Heavyweight title.

In 1989 Mike Tyson defended his undisputed crown against Frank Bruno.
A big day for heavyweight boxing then!

"Get in there, Frank!"

@dkos, onthis day Clay got the decision, but never in a million years did he beat Liston. retire on his stool in a title fight, no way. . Then get knocked out by Ali who was never a one punch merchant. Liston, after his last fight with Ali had Fourteen fights, all won by K/O or stoppage, until he was stopped at the age of forty by Leotis Martin. Agreat fighter, totally ruled by the Mafia, who decided who he fought and who he defeated or lost to . I stood by his grave in Las Vegas which is well kept. Regards Mervyn the Gee

Read a good book about Liston not long ago. There are mountains of controversy over many aspects of his life.

@AntG, according to his mother, and she if anyone would know, he was about five years older than his given date. When Liston was born nobody was really interested in accurate dates for Black peoples births, especially in the deep South. Also most of the black people were illiterate. Regards Mervyn the Gee

Also in 1994, Steve Little shocked everyone by taking Michael Nunns WBA super middleweight title on the same card as Nigel Benns defence of his WBC title vs Henry Wharton.

On this day in 1986 Marvin Hagler defended his middleweight crown in a cracking fight against the unbeaten puncher John Mugabi. On the same card Tommy Hearns knocked out James Shuler with a rocket of a right hand.
