Luf maybe buy some heavy dbs or kettlebells and do goblet squats instead?
I have goblet squats in my workout ATM, my dumbells go up to 35k. I do like a goblet squat, but I place weight plates on the floor when doing them to angle my feet, I find it gives better range of motion for me.

It might take me ages to get to the point where my front squat suffers due to not being able to clean as heavy, but it is something I'm aware of for the future.

Got back on the KETO train this week. Felt like i was constantly flip flopping between bulking and cutting, and never quite hitting the sweet spot. Plus my marathon HIIT sessions were working my endurance but i'd always seem to just refuel the carbs i burnt. Around 83ks now at 6ft1. Want to just lean out and get down to around 80 (not to be a dick about the numbers, just as an estimate). My infuriately only ever effective on stuff that doesnt really matter psychopathy level obsessiveness dictates that i want to see if i could squeeze into Super Mid bracket, but given i'm 42, have done nothing beyond light sparring, it would be pure LARPing to do so, but still. We shall see. Also been banging the Creatine all week. Guessing it's too soon to have taken much effect, but with the keto looking fwd to see what results it yields.

Squats last night went OK, managed 3 reps of 82kg which was my previous max last month. Gonna aim to add another 5kg as my goal for next month for squat, will be happy if I can keep adding 5kg each month for squat. Will take me 8 months at that rate to match my previous PB.

Bulk not going to well. Gained too much last month so dialed back the calories and since the New Year I've some how lost 1 lbs. So will need to up calories slightly again. On 3000-3100 cals I gain 1lbs a week but then on 2700-2800 I lose 1 lbs. Clearly my tracking is a bit off, that and over Christmas I was consuming a lot more sugar than I normally do. So going to up cals but keep sugar to a minimum but sugar is such an easy way of upping cals gonna have to find some new lower sugar snack ideas.

Yeah sugar is so easy when trying to get those last calories. I've had to start eating as early as possible/late as possible plus adding olive oil and butter to all my meals just to add meaningful mass. And by that I mean it goes straight to my belly so fuck do I know what I'm doing lol. Probably trying to add too much too soon.

What did you do to find that out? I follow Eddie Hall on Insta and he’s always banging on about this Muhdo Health or whatever the fuck it’s called. Basically, it’s DNA sampling to see how to tailor your diet/exercise/nutrients.

Does any of that shit actually work or is it just a hook to sell a plan?

Today is the day I try and install the gym floor.

This will be the biggest DIY shit I've ever done. Paid about $800 all in for what I need and I'm almost positive I will fuck this up and have wasted this money

I used a website called medichecks. Would recommend, the turnaround took about 4 days from placing my order.

Basically you choose which test you want (I went with the male hormone one) and they send you a test kit. In the kit is a finger pricker thing, so you just use that and fill a small tube with the blood from your finger. It was a right mess in the beginning, but it's easy enough when you get the hang of it.

I dunno about all that dna shit to tailor your training, I just wanted to know what my hormones are like tbh. Uninspiringly average was the answer.

Fuck sake.

Sorry to hear that, mate.
I know man. Not enough natural test to be a decent natty lifter, too much test to get trt. What a shit middle ground.

Fuck me, that was a pure pain, man.

Down now though. Just going to let it relax until tomorrow when I'll put some double sided tape on the underside of the seams. I probably don't need to as the stuff is legit. Heavy as utter fuck and won't budge plus my equipment will secure it down but may as well avoid the risk, just in case. Will build my rack tomorrow too.

Nice job, looks good. Sounds like you'll have a pretty nice little home gym once done.

OHP max testing today and it was a tough one with mixed results. Failed a final rep when doing doubles with 54kg because I stupidly forgot to breath after cleaning the weight up, manage the first rep but the 2nd rep was light headed so had to bail out. Took a few minutes to recover and completed the set and managed a single rep with 56.5kg which is the most I've OHP in a long while.

Then when doing Incline bench the grind with OHP clearly took something out of me as I couldn't complete the first set with 71kg, so dropped the weight down on the following sets to 66kg and completed my 4 sets of 5 reps.

Rest of the workout went well did weighted pullups with 27kg, arnold presses supersetted with EZ bar curl then Lateral raises supersetted with band pull aparts. Overall was just happy I managed to do a single with 56.5kg but next months target of 59kg for a single rep might be a tough one to get. Hopefully today's struggle was partially down to me under eating recently and gaining some weight in the next month will help.

I think those DNA sampling services are a nice idea in theory if you're a novice and don't have a background of working out in different ways and don't have years of experience with your own nutrition. It can set you on the right track when you are at a stage when you really know nothing.

But let's be honest if you are experienced like me then doing one of these test is only going to reconfirm what you already know. I've seen youtubers take these tests and it's always the same they just reconfirm things they already knew and had learned during their own journey towards fitness. I guess some will like these things reconfirmed, it's nice knowing you have a good understanding of yourself and you are on the right track I guess it prevents a lot of wasteful experimenting to some degree possibly.

Personally I know I'm not a power athlete, never been fast or explosive, never been strong or responded well to strength training as well as others around me, I've always had to work harder for my gains than others. But on the flip side I know I'm much more suited to endurance events, I can run for hours if needed, though my knees limit my ambitions towards running they'll always give out before my endurance does. I know I'm sensitive to carbs there's a history of diabetes in my family and I do feel lethargic at times after carb heavy meals. I know I have a high tolerance for coffee so to gain performance benefits from coffee I need larger amounts through the day rather than just a single big dose. I don't need to pay someone money to tell me what my body has already told me.

That's interesting. Fact is that anyone who's trained regularly, played sport or just tried to live healthily, will know all this stuff empirically. Maybe i was being flippant in my earlier post, but it does reek of snake oil, or laziness this stuff. People want a short cut, or magic bullet, that is sold to them as giving them the edge. It's a con for the most part. Incidentlly you pretty much have the same athletic basis as myself. Not very fast, not one of those bull-like strong guys in the gym, but have always had deep stamina. Even on the rare occasions i play football now at 42, i can keep going, when younger guys are tiring. Same in the gym. Not sure it's that beneficial for gym work i suppose, but i cant bang out rounds on the bag til the cows come home. Always felt i got the peasant genes, whole of my mums family rural west county farm labourer types. Been working out in the fields for millenia. on nothing but a ploughman's lunch and a couple of pints of brew. Not such a bad life really!

Unfuckingbelievable shit here, man.

Was finishing the room floor off today. Taping the seems then putting beading around around the edges. Was at it all day and was rushing at the very end just putting the bit down between the two rooms, the door diveder bit. It won't go down cos of some bit of dried glue from the last time it was down so I got the Stanley blade out and knew I shouldn't be cutting towards me but I'm rushing cos I had fitba so I'm on my knees, feet bent under me and the blade slipped. Right into my knee, just right of the knee cap. Barely half an inch but deep as fuck.

Needs a stitch but I didn't want to miss fitba so I poured some vodka in it (see that shit in filmed, don't yi) and then put super glue on it. It's Gorilla Glue and says on the bottle "bonds almost anything". Seemed to work really well and it stopped the bleeding so strapped it up and went to fitba.

Lost about a litre of blood, ffs.

Cos it's on the knee every time I bend it it opens back up.

Was planning to build my rack tonight and start squatting tomorrow. Absolutely no chance of squatting until this heals and that'll take a while. Unreal.
