Nothing like a lightning rod on the water. The most afraid I've ever been in a storm was when a buddy and I were out fishing in his aluminum flatboat and a big storm came up out of nowhere. We raced back to out campsite in that open boat with lightning cracking all around. It didn't get any better when we got to the campsite since we were in a tent with metal poles holding it up.

We just hunkered down and sat there waiting for that one bolt to hit the tent frame and fry us as we drank cold beer. Never happened, but that day has never left my mind and that was over 30 years ago now.
Shit man did you hear that story about the one bolt of lighting that struck 13 people and killed one of them on July 4th? That's some scary shit right there.

The only thing about dying like that is you likely never even know what hit you as it happens so fast and violently. That is one of the ways of dying that I can say I don't know anyone who was killed that way.

You may have seen these photos before - they were taken by a group of teenage siblings while hiking up a mountain back in the '70s.

They didn't know it at the time, but the hair standing upright was a warning of an impending lightning strike.

Moments after these photos were taken, lightning struck the area where they were standing. The girl was unharmed, but the two boys took a direct hit (as did several other hikers nearby) and were severely injured.

The only reason I'm putting this here is because it'll be lost among all the other threads and I don't think it should. I knew nothing of his story but this breaks my heart.

Milestones make a difference.

Do yourself a favor and hug your loved ones tonight.
