  • CHB will be closing down as of 31st July 2021. It's been a brilliant experience to run the website for the past 9 years, however it's time for me to move onto different projects. Thanks to every single person involved, from staff, former staff, posters old and current. All support means more than anyone knows. Thanks for your understanding.

Dugges Windmill & Airport Red Wine Barrel Aged Belgian Strong Ale XXL 3L (11% ABV)

This shit if incredible! I'm drinking this 3L XXL bottle as you see on the picture, very large cap. It's more of barrel aged brown ale than a Belgian one, some incredible vanilla, toffee, tannin notes, sweet malts, dark fruits, sweet chocolate, caramel, absolutely no giveaway of 10%+ ABV yet I'm getting drunk here. Dugges never disappoints and this may be the best new beer I've drank this year. 9,3/10

Fuller's Vintage Ale 2017 (8,5%)

This is an incredible strong ale that goes perfectly in a bottle or two with Thomas Vinterberg's Another Round (2020). Sweet malty tones with honey, sweet chocolate, dark fruits, distinct classic English hops and lots of caramel - I've had Fuller's Limited Imperial Porter, Imperial IPA and Imperial Stout, but this is the best of the batch. 9/10

Nice.

Fuller's is usually avoided when seen in pubs. Good to see they make something worth tasting.

Any other interesting beers this Christmas, Bone?

This year is about quantity rather than quality I think, but got some of the good stuff ready. Your choice?

What's that about Fuller's? London & Imperial Porter, Imperial IPA & Stout, ESB, pretty good stuff all around. The Vintage Ale is the cherry on top.

Yeah I was talking more about the stuff you see on tap. I've had the L&I Porter, that was really good.

Nothing particularly special this year. Got a Duvel Citra to drink and a couple of Northern Monk's to try.

Also got a Thornbridge Jaipur X but that may have to wait. 10% at 440ml :hey

The Triple Hop Citra is magnificent, drink 5 of them and you'll go next level (and not remember a thing).

Lehe Pruulikoda Singularity - 18% ABV

This bad boy has 400% the alcohol content of your average lager, yet has no STRONG BEER label printed on it as it's entirely not the point. We fancy beer and wine drinkers are not alcoholics, we are entirely drinking expensive shit for the taste, truss! This is a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout and a stunning one: heavy dark fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla, and caramel flavors balanced via strong hop bitterness & tannins from the barrel. Yes, it's very sweet but also very well balanced, really strong but you only feel that in yer belly and afterwards when you take a leak. And it started with a weird metallic taste when it was freshly opened and just too cold, a little air and air temperature however made it the best craft beer I've drunk this year. 9/10

Perhaps the best widely available, commercial pilsner. Especially the unfiltered on tap, but that you only get in the Czech Republic as far as I know, had some good beer tours over there.

WTF is Yueling?
The oldest American brewery, and the best dollar for dollar beer there is. What I mean is, it is the best beer value you can buy. It is only available in certain regions of the country though.

Yea we are going to Prague in August. Looking forward to having the unfiltered ambrosia
