I always thought some of the actual boxing scenes look a bit shit in that. I know they are actors playing boxers but some of it looks really unnatural. Still a great film though.
I thought the opposition were pro boxers, I know Eddie Mustafa Muhammad is Billy Fox.

I think it's the most realistic depiction of boxing on film although it will never be the real thing.

Alita Battle Angel was immensely enjoyable but they done fucked it up with the clifhanger ending. You can't go see any blockbuster these days without it being left open for a sequel. The movie probably won't even get a sequel if the quarter full show house was anything to go by.

But its still good and well worth watching If you like Sc-fi films.

The critics score is around 50% and user score is high 80's on Metacritic. I bet Captain Marvel is a worse movie but will get flawless scores of 95-100 by the critics.
Shame , because Alita deserves to do a lot better than it will at the box office.

I remember when they were talking about Norton being the new generation of great acting, in fact the movie The Score was kind of sold as 3 generations of "method actor" with Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro and Ed Norton in it.

Castle Duckula.
The Gringo

A dark comedy about selling drugs, kidnapping, bad big business affairs starring Joel Edgerton, Charlize Theron, David Oyelowo with Amanda Seyfried, Charlto Copley, Thandie Newton and Harry Treadaway. I'm guessing with that type of cast they thought they were going to be making a huge blockbuster big hit and it really tries to be exactly that. It falls shot by a big hit. The stars are god, but not great, names but not massive names. I enjoyed the performances and it swung a long at a good pace to deter boredom. I laughed a few times, but wouldn't cal it funny. The action was well shot, but tame and the story is full of twists and turns, just none that you ever really care about. Theron is so damn shaggable.

5/10 Not bad if you are at a loose end. Very tough to be any more positive.

Full Metal Jacket

Watched a TV series about 16 year old recruits in the British army with this film popping in my head. Absolute classic movie. One of the most quotable films ever made and a killer soundtrack make it hard not to get involved when you watch it. R Lee Ermey steals the show in a role often imitated but never matched.

As close to 10/10 as possible.

Leviathan (2014)

A fantastic film. I had been meaning to watch it when I first heard of it a few years back (also been meaning to watch his The Return perhaps I'll finally get round to that now).

It is not a particularly subtle film, but that doesn't prevent it from being very powerful. Despite being, ultimately, very bleak I found that it was actually very humanistic. The first half the film sets this up very well. Despite the serious undertones set up immediately, we see them joke, laugh, drink and so on. These are characters we like and come to care about. This only makes the finally climax even more traumatic and emotionally devastating. The key themes are the endemic corruption of modern Russia and the close ties between the Orthodox Church and this deeply corrupt political system. As well as the general dissatisfaction and depression of the Russian populace in which everyone drinks vodka to find some peace. In this Russia, Bishops wine and dine with scumbag politicians while teenagers drink vodka in the ruins of old Churches. There there is clearly a very serious critique of state of Russian politics and society. However, I would say that, ultimately, the film presents time and fate itself is the Leviathan that washes away everything before it, and we are all Job...

Some fucks in the contemporary art world discover the work of a dead man which brings death on any that profit from the art.
Has a solid cast including J gylenhall, J malkovic.
JG is probably one of my fave actors of late puts in a hilarious act as a gay art critic.
The film is a bit ridiculous but the performances keep you entertained through out.

Heat.

Pretty boring.

Heard it was good but it's over rated, for me. Not a bad film and the performances are pretty great, but just found it a bit slow and long.

6.5/10
