Night of the Creeps

Sci-fi/horror/comedy about a college town that's overrun by slug-like alien beings that enter people's bodies through their mouths and then multiply inside their brains, turning them into zombies until their heads eventually burst.

Most people would probably dismiss this as just a generic sci-fi/horror B movie, but I think it works very effectively as a tongue-in-cheek homage and spoof of classic sci-fi films. Despite its humorous tone though, it still has some genuinely creepy moments IMO.

However, I think its biggest selling point is actress Jill Whitlow, one of the hottest babes of the '80s IMO. (Here she is in an unrelated TV role:
)

Incidentally, there are two endings to this movie (the original theatrical one and an alternate "director's cut"), both of which I've seen in TV airings. The director's cut is admittedly more chilling and creative, but I prefer the original within the context of the movie.

Rating: 6.5-7/10.

The Last Seduction

A personal favorite of mine - stylish, darkly humorous neo-noir about an ambitious, sociopathic femme fatale who continually manipulates, seduces, and outwits various men on her way to achieving her goals.

Linda Fiorentino delivers a powerhouse performance in the lead role, at times reminiscent of vintage Lauren Bacall. Admittedly, the movie may feel a bit tedious and meandering in the middle portion, but it's overall quite engaging and culminates with a brilliant ending.

Rating: 8.5/10.

Ford v Ferrari

American automotive designer Carroll Shelby and fearless British race car driver Ken Miles battle corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary vehicle for the Ford Motor Co. Together, they plan to compete against the race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.

I knew I’d like it but I had to convince the Mrs to come and watch it too.
Not to sure how close it was to the truth but the Ford senior management were absolute pieces of shit if this is remotely factual.
Bale and Damon were superb, as were the wife and son. Great story with some great effects; I recently saw some videos of the photography for the films and it’s breathtaking.

Anyway, the wife loved it, as did I. 8.8/10

The trailers and sound bites for the film have been awful. Great to see you give it a very positive review.

I didn’t see anything of the film until a few days ago; it just arrived out of nowhere. The title leaves a lot to be desired but it really is a great film.

The Set-up (1949)

Excellent low-budget noir/sports flick about corruption in prizefighting. Robert Ryan plays an aging gatekeeper set up to take a dive vs. the young sensation, a tiny little info everybody was in on except for him. Told in real time through a boxing card and offering some pretty darn good fight scenes choreographed by ex-boxer/stunt-man Johnny Indrisano, it's a pretty realistic affair and I like the story's simplicity.

While it feels authentic, The Set-Up was apparently based on a poem featuring an African-American boxer, but RKO had no black star to offer the role, and it was white-washed. Imagine a black protagonist fighting against corruption and racial stereotypes, would've been something in '49, but it wasn't to be. Still, nice cult-classic: it's gritty, it's beautifully shot, captures the essence and dark side of our sport and reflects on the same blood-thirsty audience that hasn't changed in 70 years since. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I only ever saw a clip of the last scene of that film. The dancing on the hill scene. It's really unsettling for some reason.

Very sexy neo-noir.
Agreed. Linda Fiorentino should've had a much better/longer career in Hollywood. Unfortunately, it seems her real-life personality may have been not too dissimilar from her movie persona. Last I heard, she was involved in a real-life Last Seduction-like incident in which she seduced an FBI agent to provide her with confidential information about her boyfriend.

Tom Atkins gives it is all in this film. Good B movie.
Underrated actor - he delivered a commendable performance in any movie I've seen him in.
