New Mutants - Disappointing to say the least, trailer looked good, made it out that this would be a marvel film with a horror theme but the bad reviews turned out to be valid. The trailer was scarier than the actual film itself, as a horror film this was a resounding failure, no tension at all, the director didn't have a clue on how to build towards a scare.

The script for this was weak, story is predictable and mundane, so run of the mill. The characters are OK I guess but I couldn't help feeling the whole thing was poorly executed. Ironically in the background they had the TV show Buffy the vampire slayer playing in a couple of scenes which clearly the director used as inspiration such as the smiling face men clearly influenced by The Gentlemen in the Buffy episode Hush. But all this did was show you how poorly this film had portrayed similar characters compared to Buffy.

It's a shame the whole Marvel/Horror film idea was a good one, something that could of sparked new interest in the X-Men series after the failure of Dark Phoenix. They had a decent cast with Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things, Anya Taylor-Joy from The Witch, Split and Queens Gambit and of course Masie Williams from GOT. But they had little to work with here.

The overall plot was weak as hell. The whole overcome your own fears storyline has been done many times before and done better and honestly not sure why they went with Danielle Moonstar's story as the main plot which resulted in them having the stupid giant bear as the big bad threat, when Illyana Rasputin;s character seemed to have a far scarier and disturbing back story.

Not the worst film I've seen, still better than Dark Phoenix. But overall really forgettable.

Think I read it was retroactively changed after they had finished filming to make it into an horror as the studio wanted to go in a different direction and released that trailer people liked.

So they branded a film that was never meant to be a horror movie into a horror movie, well that was dumb. But makes sense, there were things going on in the trailer than didn't happen in the film, they must of added those elements to give it a horror feel.

Pretty sure that was what happened. Think Critical Drinker did a video on it up on YouTube.

Really gotten into his vids lately. He does a good job of shitting all over a movie without just being an arrogant cynical prick about it. Like the redlettermedia guys.

I love the RedLetterMedia guys, buy if I don't agree with them on a film I know I'm in for an hard ride. They more than make up for it though with the majority of their content. I'm going to treat myself to the commentaries and other stuff on the shop for XMAS.

Transformers

Giant robots come to Earth and fight over an all powerful cube while Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox come along for the incoherent and massively stupid ride. Do yourself a favour and buy the DVD of the original cartoon, it's more intelligent and more fun.

The Da Vinci Code

A pretentious boring mystery thriller where Tom Hanks basically goes on a massive scavenger hunt in search of the Holy Grail, poor Tom seems to spend the film wandering around with a confused look on his face probably due to wondering how he ended up in this terrible film which seems to think it's being clever with a new plot twist every 30 minutes though you can actually see those twists coming a mile off.

Despite the money they clearly spent on special effects it did really feel like a B movie level plot, kind of silly, pointless shower scene that didn't even show boob, haunted house, creepy doctor, people running around screaming etc. The recent Halloween movie had a better more inventive ending so maybe it's not even B level.

All the recent X-Men/Mutant films have been really bad. Age of Apocalypse they could of literally ripped out the villain from an episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers it was so bad. It's a toss up between the purple evil smurf and smokey the bear for worst villain lol.

Dark Phoenix I can't even recall a single thing that happened in that movie it was so forgettable.

Peanut Butter Falcon - Feel good comedy, buddy drama, starring Shia Labeouf and Dakota Johnson. Nice film about a guy with down syndrome who escaped his care home, befriends a dead beat fisherman with a heart of gold who agrees to take him to Florida to train to be a wrestler. Nice movie, had it's funny moments and heart warming moments, overall enjoyable but nothing amazing.

Totally agree with this. The title caught my eye and I almost didn't keep watching it after the first 20 or so minutes but decided to stick with it and really enjoyed the movie. "Feel Good" movie for sure. Zack Gottsagan, the young man with Downs Syndrome did a fine job with his part.

Not sure if I posted this on here before, and I'm not inclined to look through all my past posts to see if I did, but I just got done watching "Open Range", a western starring Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall, Annette Benning and a slew of others in a very good western themed film.

The movie really centers around Costner and Duvall who are driving a cattle herd to market and run into a "range war" situation where the local land baron and his men give them a hard time since they consider them trespassers or "Free Grazers". Both Costner and Duvall are quite believable in their portrayal of what I imagine cattlemen in that time were like when their backs were pushed to the wall.

I put this movie damn close to Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven" for watchability and intensity.

A couple of great 80's films

Heathers

Black comedy revolving around Winona Ryder playing a popular girl at school and part of a clique, however she grows tired of her friends cruel behavior and befriends an outcast played by Christian Slater who wants payback against the popular kids. A witty antidote to the more feelgood 80's high school films.

Poltergeist

Great horror film about a family in an ideal home who soon find themselves attacked by ghosts and their young daughter is snatched through a portal, they bring in paranormal investigators to help them get her back.

Winnona Ryder was great back then, and I genuinely love a lot of Slater's movies form the late 80's to the early 90's.

I have very strong memories of watching both these films for the first time. Both on TV when I was at primary school.

I loved Heather's when I saw it on channel 4. It seemed so cool.

Poltergeist was on itv I think. I remember all the boys at school talking about it the next day. It had a big affect on my class.

Don't remember the film in great detail though. I actually remember the sequal better.

The thing I love about Poltergeist is it's the director of E.T. and Close Encounters teaming up with the guy who directed the fucking Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it's so Yin and Yang and it actually works brilliantly.
