  • CHB will be closing down as of 31st July 2021. It's been a brilliant experience to run the website for the past 9 years, however it's time for me to move onto different projects. Thanks to every single person involved, from staff, former staff, posters old and current. All support means more than anyone knows. Thanks for your understanding.

Caught this one again a couple days ago. "Primal Fear" with Ed Norton and Richard Gere in the leading roles and full of suspense with a wicked plot twist at the end that caught me totally off-guard.

The movie cemented for me just how good an actor Ed Norton really is, even though he makes me despise him in some roles-----like his part in "Rounders" playing opposite Matt Damon----once again proving how a good actor can affect your perception of his character.

Hey @BigBone, have you watched Nomadland yet?

Rewatched The Irishman. Performances are all fine but nothing special, effects are crap, and it's WAAAY too long.
I was surprised at how Al Pacino appeared to be actually trying. Though maybe it was because everyone else seemed to be going through the motions that he stood apart, I dunno. The second, is that terrible scene where youngified old man DeNiro beat the shit out of that store owner. They should have got a body double for that, DeNiro was looking like he was gonna break a hip :sad.

Damn, I forgot all about that one, gonna have to revisit that one. Just watched The Jackal, maybe I'll keep the Gere train rolling. I used to be a big fan of Norton, he played a good Marlon Brando in Kingdom of Heaven.

Waiting for the gorram 4K copy, I however have Daddy ready with Anthony Hopkins and hearing good things about it... which means shit since I'm the only one who's recommendation I trust on contemporary cinema and I haven't seen it yet...

BTW, have you seen Cruising? Do you recommend it?

Anthony Hopkins? Good things? Don't make me laugh Bone. That dusty fossil hasn't turned in a good performance since Robin Williams snatched his soul at the 70th Oscars. Don't get your hopes up, it's probably just him sitting/shuffling about for 2 hours while making his angry old man face and shaking his fist.

I'm watching it tomorrow.

I Lost My Body. christ, what a dark, depressing, sullen, melancholy movie. The most depressing animated movie I've ever seen. Fuck, I'm feeling down now after watching that.

He a man today! He a man!

Ah yes, Westworld, where A-Hop quietly talks about how he made all this, and it's all part of his plan, over and over. Meanwhile Ed Harris is doing all the heavy lifting. (Editors note: "Kiksuya" may be my all-time favourite episode of any show.)

Now, Hopkins isn't the worst character on that show by any means. Maeve should have been killed off long ago. Awful character. God-mode only when it suits the story line. Bitch cheated and unlocked her way to max level stats at level 1 and still can't do shit when it matters :sad.

Oh right, this is a movie thread not TV...

I watched The Midnight Sky the other day. Don't.

Sir Hops does random shit like a champ ever since that one time he couldn't decide who he should eat the leftover fava beans and chianti with... then the census taker knocked...

Meave... was all right 1st season that should've ended it all. That other episode with the native American was the only quality 45 minutes since, S2-S3 is a mess otherwise with Dolores going Robocop and Kusanagi, with ridiculous shit happening disconnecting from S1's self-consistency. Midnight Sky? Isn't that like some computer game? Or am I getting old?

Les Misérables (2019) by Ladj Ly. A disturbing French thriller. Not based on the Victor Hugo novel, just refers to it. Worth checking out if ya like French cinema.

Da 5 Bloods. Didn't excite me or even much interest me until the point when
that guy got blown in 2 by the landmine.
Only then did it begin to feel worth watching, but that was after about an hour of unfocused rambling.
