In general iT seems to me that the the UK (and ireland) produced the better bands.
Whereas the usa produced better solo artists.

Ofcourse usa has produced all time great bands. The eagles, journey, CCR, the doors, etc etc.
And the UK produced atg solo artists

But in general the UK have produced so much more great bands then the yanks.

Beatles, Stones, queen, u2, thin lizzy, led zeppelin, pink floyd, dire straits, black sabbath, the who, the jam, Roxy music, the clash, Oasis, Radiohead, iron maiden

The list is endless.

Whereas the usa also has a much bigger population.
So why have the British so much more good bands ???

The US has quite a few stars as well. Jimi Hendrix, The Eagles, The Doors, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Nirvana, Metallica, ZZ Top, Berlin, Missing Persons, Grateful Dead, Ramones... the list goes on.

I will give you this: Pink Floyd rules.

I agree that the UK had greater bands and the US greater solo artists. Your list if kind of weird though. The UK has bands that can't be matched in the Beatles, Stones .Zeppelin, and the Who. The US can easily match the rest of your list. The big 4 is what sets the UK apart.

Who knows why.

Personal preference has no place in these discussions.

The U.K. for bands, with Floyd and The Who being my favorites. As far as solo it's an easy win for the US. Michael Jackson, Elvis, Madonna and Whitney Houston are some of the standouts.

Bob Dylan casts maybe the biggest shadow in Rock History. The Beatles worshiped him and they were the same age. Springsteen is also massive.

there’s no such thing as better when it comes to music, it’s all relative to the individual
what you like, I probably don’t & vice versa, what you consider good, I probably dont
it all comes down to individual taste

This, it's all subjective and down to personal taste. The idea you can quantify the value of one band or singer over another is indefinable and impossible.

I agree that personal tastes have no place in these conversations but we all know the basic overall pecking order in rock history. The UK dominates the bands category and the US does in the solo category.

Yes there is.
Ofcourse you can have personal taste.

But.... example... maybe you don’t like the music of rolling Stones. Thats possible.
But you cannot deny they are not one of the best bands ever.
Even if you like for example ZZ-top music much more you cannot say they are a better band then the rolling Stones.

Me for example i don’t like the voice of bob Dylan but i cannot deny the man’s greatness.

Being great or better is not subjective to personal taste.
Maradona is a irritating little fat asshole imho. But i cannot deny he belong to the best ever players and with music its the same.
Personal likeness or not : great is great

errrrrr no, being better than another band is absolutely subjective & has everything to do with personal taste

you can base your assumptions on commercial success, you can base them on record sales, you can base it on lots of little tangibles but they’re all infected by a big bad marketing machine that basically create great bands through image mostly

with regards to the stones, not that I do, but I can hate them & absolutely dismiss everything about them, that’s my personal taste, it’s all just music for fucks sake, we all have personal tastes

Are you really stupid ? Or are you handicapped ?

I goddamnit ecplained iT or not ?
IT has nothing to do with taste but with knowing or recognizing.

Like i said : i do not like bob Dylan for one bit but i know he is a an ATG artist.

I don’t give a damn about opera but i know and i recognize Pavarotti is a very good/great singer.

Those are facts. Nothing to do with taste or opinion.

Personally i like poco very much i like their music more then the Beatles.
But i cannot say poco are a better band then the Beatles.
And that had nothing to do with record sales but simply by knowing.

Facts are facts. You can be a fan of Henry cooper or archie moore but you cannot have the opinion that they are better heavyweights then Sonny liston for example.

And being iT sports or music or whatever you are allowed of personal taste/preference but not by claiming a clear “lesser” is better then a clearly better one

Saw Floyd in '85 or '86 at Hughes Stadium in Sac. Wild show. They floated a bed for a while over the audience and they all went nuts. Great band, absolutely tits in concert. :good

I saw Pink Floyd twice - first on the Wish You Were Here tour, and again on the Animals tour. They were awesome live. It was always a spectacle set to great music performed live. David Gilmour can play the guitar in a way that conveys emotions and tells a story almost. Great times.
