So as far as I've understood, Russia is cracking down on all non-major worldwide religion. Any religion that distances itself from parts of Russian society is deemed extremist. The JW's refuse elections, conscriptions and blood transfusions and therefore caught the attention of the Russian government and was judged an extremist group. That means that they can be JWs individually but are banned from practicing their religion in groups. The danish JW married a Russian JW and has been living in Russia for years. He is the first to be sentenced for breaking that ban by organizing and leading prayer meetings. He got 6 years in jail but of course appealed but appeals in Russia rarely change the outcome. Now there are about 100 other cases lined up for trial against other religious people.
... I'm so gonna say "Njet!" to the next JWs showing up at my door followed by chants of "Ra-sea-ah! Ra-sea-ah!"
