I think he's made a mistake there he didn't collect the WBC off Smith I don't think but anyway the point is clear, only one fight to go before history is made at 168lb and as far as I'm concerned he's cleared the stiffest hurdle now so taking Plant's belt off him should be routine business. Plant though can demand to be the A/B side rather than just the B side here, he's in the way of legacy right now so his agents better demand the world. I'd be starting at 50/50, the IBF are the least likely imo to get involved and force Canelo on Plant so this could be very lucrative for him indeed

Plant has very little leverage if he plays hardball over money. I hope he gets a good payday, but if he gets greedy and insists on too much, Canelo's team can tell him to do one and go defend against a nobody for a fraction of the money, and risk losing his title or getting injured, while Canelo takes a keep-busy fight.

I mean, who could Plant possibly fight that keeps his fans happy, brings a decent payday, and doesn't risk losing his title? All roads lead to Canelo and probably losing the title.

And that's just the clean leverage Canelo has. They'll have plenty of dirty stuff they can pull, not that I expect they'll need to. I think Plant will take a fat 10-15 million dollars or so and sign quickly.

Yes that is a risk but so far so good for Plant, I can't recall how many defences he's made to date but they've all been successful and he can put a rematch clause on any voluntaries too so if he slips up they'll have to see him again immediately anyway so Canelo could be waiting a long time and it's Canelo who will be under pressure from 3 sanctioning bodies to make mandatory defences or risk losing one of his belts and Benevidez is already number 1 in the WBC if I remember rightly so clock is ticking, only a matter of time before Benevidez becomes mandatory and the whole house could come crashing down. If I'm Plant I want more than both Smith and Saunders, Plant may not be in the driving seat but he's got his hands on the steering wheel.

Nah, this is as good as a done deal. Talking about how much fighters are getting paid usually bores me shitless, I just don't want to see Plant get low-balled, or too greedy in this case. The only out he has here is if Canelo's team try to lowball him, which no-one wants to see, and I can't see them doing it. Plant has a chance to make history himself, and get paid very well for doing so, or become known as the guy that chickened out of the biggest fight in years, and risk losing his title for much lower paydays.

Saunders was supposedly paid $7m for this fight, so I think $10m would be extremely fair, especially as Saunders wasn't being given the opportunity to become undisputed. If he can squeeze out a few more mil on top of that then good for him, but I would be pissed if he was offered considerably more than Saunders and refused the fight.

Haymon will be whispering silky words in Calebs ear about some glorious payday and opportunity to become undisputed somewhere far down the road already. I just hope Plant realises he will never get a shot at glory or payday like this ever again. Few do.

I give Plant less of a chance than I gave BJS, which was 5%.
Would love it if he pulled off the upset though.

I give Plant a "decent" chance. Maybe 25% if I had to pick a number, and if the ring is a reasonable size. (But of course, it will be a phone booth.)

He has a huge reach advantage over Canelo, very fast hands, and is pretty clever in the ring. I think he has the ability to frustrate Canelo, and possibly win a decision, if he doesn't get walked down. We all know he's a featherfist, but he might have enough pop to keep the Gingican off of him.

Canelo is, of course, at the top of his game, and the ring will be tiny, and the judges will be paid off, so maybe make that chance 10%. But it's still an interesting fight.

We have to give Canelo credit we just seen him stop a mover in a 22ft ring, if he's happy to give BJS the ring size of his choice I'm sure he will Plant too and he'll just do the same thing, break him down and then stop that man

Hope you're right, I just don't see it.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Jermall Charlo v Canelo. Any chance this happens soon?
The Middleweights need to unify first and then look to face Canelo.
Charlo (WBC), Murata (WBA), Golovkin (IBF) and Andrade (WBO) need to face each other and the last man standing gets the Canelo payday.

Canelo in the meantime should face Plant in September and David Benavidez or Chris Eubank Jr should get in with Carlos Gongora for the IBO around the same time.
Canelo vs. Benavidez/Eubank/Gongora in December and thats a wrap...

Does Canelo have zero interest in returning back to 160? Way more competition in that division imo.

Looks like he is gonna price himself out.

If he thinks the Purse of $8 Million that BJS got is peanuts.
