Hitler suffered many attempts on his life from his army career in WWI to his days during WWII. Sure we all agree that he was a extremely bad guy who was at the heart of an incredibly dark period of world history. But to get to where we are now a lot of the horrible events of the past had to happen.

So Quentum Leap type scenario. Or guardian angel. You are given the choice or going back in time to watch over and protect Hitler from any further harm to that we already know he suffered. Your decision not to go back means any one of those close shaves with death result in his early demise.

Do you accept and become Hitler's saviour til his last day in the Berlin bunker or do you allow whatever changes in history to just happen as a result of your choice?

Also what would an untimely Hitler death have meant and changed say during WWI or during either of the two more famous assassination attempts in WWII?

If he died in WWI I suspect there still would have been some sort of right wing revolution in Germany, given the circumstances.............maybe violent as a lot of the Freikorps and shit didn't have the political savvy he had............that said I SUSPECT the right wing reaction to Weimar and the depression and the lost war would have been more 'traditional' when it all shook out, with a return to something more akin to the prussian model..........

Killed DURING WWII?

The army may have been able to pull out a sort of stalemate situation for long enough to reach a peace settlement with at least the Soviets...........

Germany was never going to WIN the war but Hitler made sure they were going to lose............

hell,Id gladly take an alternative 'job' and go back far enough to club his mum to death with a fuckin bat before he was born.........

very few alternative scenarios wind up worse than Hitlers war and straight up death camps...........

Your alternative is you have to be Eva Braun and stay in her body throughout their relationship together seeing and feeling everything she did and not changing a moment.

His mum Klara was all right. His old man was literally and figuratively a bastard though, so he deserved to be beaten to death before knocking his 16 year old first cousin up with their first child (Adolf was their fourth kid).

History is something we can't replay, but Germany could very well have won the war.

Hitler's biggest mistake was to declare war on the US. Things could well have turned out differently if he had been able to avoid having America in the war, or even if he'd managed to delay the US entry significantly.

Back to the thread-question....If Hitler had been killed in the trenches of WW1, who knows ?

Is history made up of an aggregate of the sweeping currents and trends unfolding.....or can it be substantially influenced or altered by individual actors like Adolf ?

You could make a case for either model.

Fun to speculate, but impossible to know.

i feel like germany could have won a war. but the way they went about it: invading the ussr while at war on other fronts and before they were fully prepared, was always going to fail.

i'm gonna let him die in ww1. idk what will happen, but how much worse could it be?

I wouldn't change history. Not worth saving millions of lives if there is a possibility that I won't be born.

That's how selfish I am.

nah................

the german army was effectively shattered outside moscow before the US even joined.............the NCOs and professional core that made it so efective already damaged beyond repair

russian manpower, space and lack of infrastructure was going to be too much for them..............without the US directly involved it would have taken longer to bleed out the germans but it would have happened...........

remember that the US was already 'involved' supporting the UK before hitler declared war on the Soviets or germany declared war on the US and that economic/shipping aid was far more important than any direct military intervention in europe..........

IMHO it would have taken a coup in the USSR that put a regime willing to sign a bad peace in power and a total lack of aid from the west to give Hitler a shot..........

MAYBE if he had gone hands off and let the generals run the show from day one of 1941 there was a slim chance of 'victory' ............

A lot worse. WW2 was a horrific conflict, but it lasted for half a decade and led directly to the longest period of peace that Europe has ever known.

And nukes were coming anyway. Their introduction could have turned out SO much worse in an alternate timeline.

fair point on the nukes.

maybe the period of european peace is not that important as half europe was ussr and the cold war(with all it's real wars) was going on.

if ww2 doesn't start then maybe the period of peace goes back to the end of ww1?

maybe

remember though that the fascists in Italy and Japan were busy with aggressive wars long before Hitler joined in...................and Stalin and the Soviets were balls deep in atrocity since Lenin..........

there may have been a host of different wars

I disagree with @Haggis though

nobody was going to beat the US to the bomb

nobody was even close and the sheer economic power it took would have wrecked most other nations............

remember yall, the soviets only got the bomb because they were given the info from spies in the US...........

Sure, but nukes were going to enter the game at a certain point anyway, whether it's 1945 or 1978. And we drew just about the best-case scenario for introducing them into armed conflict.
