It's no secret that many athletes are notoriously bad about handling their career earnings. So many of them spend like there's no tomorrow or their career will go on for many more years when all it takes is one injury to end it all.

There's been more "rags to riches, back to rags" stories associated with athletes that you'd think the younger ones would be more aware of the pitfalls of having all that money thrown at them at such an young age, and learn how to better handle it, or surround themselves with trusted people that do.

I really hate seeing boxers well past their prime trying to reclaim some of that glory-------and money. It usually ends bad for them with embarrassing losses or less than stellar wins against journeymen fighters.

to be fair, a huge number of them simply get ripped off by their managers & promoters. - Or the manager - accountant cheats on their taxes and pockets the difference, then years later the tax man comes a'knockin' at their door, with huge penalties and interest fees added on. (Think Joe Louis)

it's very often not the boxer's fault.

Also, I think the lure of being back in the spotlight might be even more compelling than having to work at Home Depot.
- Even if your nickname is "Maravilla."

Hey the champ is back!! He was about to school Cotto when his knees gave out, I hope that's all sorted now. Anyone know if the fight will be televised anywhere?

The only listing I have seen is Canal Space into Latin America.

Actually, some fights I wouldn't mind seeing him in: rematch with Chavez Jr., rematch with Margarito, rematch with Cotto. Other than that, I'm not sure what I would want to watch with him.

The Chavez fight was pretty one-sided and his effort against Canelo and Jacobs didn't really inspire me to want to see him in action again anytime soon but I wouldn't mind seeing the Cotto rematch though, they gotta name that event Unfinished Business!

The show where Martinez's return fight will be shown is shown live now. I'm watching on a Norwegian newspaper's online sports tv. Right now Sergio Garcia (EBU super welter champion) getting rid of ring rust fighting a super middle weight. Round 5 of 10 now. Next fight should be Martinez. Probably exists more streams somewhere of this event.

Round 1. Martinez looks fast for his age. Both hands and feet. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with his knees. Is in full control. The journeyman looks decent.

Round 2. A lot more open, as the journeyman starts to box and throws lots of right hooks. Some of them finds the target too. But Martinez responds with some good shots, looking sharp.

Round 3. Martinez looks good against the journeyman. A bit arrogant with his defence, hands down, but is sufficiently fast in his feet and head movement to avoid getting hit. Looks like everything Josh Kelly wants to look like in the ring.

Round 4 is similar to the previous round. Martinez in total control and looks good, but the tempo is low. Question is whether he can still box against the best? No idea, but a 45 years old Martinez looks fit and fast for his age. Another fight or two like this, and I wouldn't be surprised if he'd like to step up.

Round 5. Journeyman more active, and manages to find the target too, but Martinez is in total control. Probably wants the rounds. Will be interesting to see if he can finish off the journeyman by stepping up the tempo at some point.

Round 6. Martinez steps up the tempo and boxes with hands up, and puts journeyman in the corner, and drops him with a body punch. Traps him again in the corner in the last seconds. Dominant round for Martinez.
