People really don't understand how tax write offs work. Its the same as money laundering, people think its some excercise in just throwing money at frivolous things and voila you've played the system.

There will be a reduction to the sponsors annual tax bill, and presumably if they can afford to fund some jaunt like this they are a higher rate tax payer. But the net affect is still money out of their pocket.

Tax bands don't work on a way that you're instantly at a reduced rate if you manage to get to a certain spot, be it ltd companies or just self employed, they're incremental so that people don't do things like this.

They will be able to offset the expense of sponsorship* against turnover like they would any expense to reduce profit and in turn it would lower their tax liability - but the net affect will still mean more money out of the sponsors pocket - just rather than 40% of it going to HMRC and 60% for the sponsor to keep for themselves - now 100% goes to PP.

* Though in a case like this where there is little to no actual real life promotion HMRC could argue its not allowable.
I think the question we need to be asking is what numnuts is actually sponsoring him?

Got to be a close relative or mate surely.

I actually think Sunny may not put the work in during camp and he seems convinced it's an easy fight BUT I believe Sunny is the better boxer and will win if switched on.
Nah, Sunny will be fuelled by his pure hatred for Patel. There's no way he takes it easy.

I'm a big fan of Sunny, I think he'd stop Patel with body shots but tbh I haven't seen enough of the Prince to be 100% confident.

I know a terrible mma fighter who lived off sponsorship for several years - he was just a top notch blagger.

I think he is too much for Patel as well to be honest mate.

Common results between the pair doesn't bode well for The Prince but we shall see, funny things can happen in these grudge matches.

Is Patel heading for the WBSS? Or is there an obscure belt we don't know about with the same abbreviation?

No chance.

He just knows that the #WBSS is trending and is trying to get noticed by putting that hashtag in his post. If he has refused to fight Sunny Edwards and Jay Harris he isn't going to box Ryan Burnett is he lol.

To be honest I cant see how the competition can maintain its reputation if it lets novices in, I mean would you think its acceptable to let Josh Whale in a much more accomplished fighter then Patel?

No not at all. To be clear, me posting this in no reflects me condoning the choice of Patel!

I think there is likely to be at least a couple of unknowns across the weights though. Like Jamie Cox, he was known to us as Brits, but a complete;y unknown fighter in the rest of the world. Robert Brant too, there'll likely be one or two that slip in out of obscurity.

I knew you wasn't mate, sorry if that came across like I was trying to be smart that is the trouble with typing at times lol.

I just hope that if they do chuck a few unknown/lesser fighters in then they are of higher standard then Patel.

Imagine him versus that Rodriguez kid in the first round, it wouldn't be great advertising for a tournament that is meant to be crowning an undisputed world champion.

Cox/Brant are not world beaters but they were operating at a much higher level than Patel.

AN interview with the Prince, discussing the WBSS.

"I became WBO European champion on Saturday, took a flight home Sunday and was back in the gym by Monday," Patel exclusively told World Boxing News.

"I won via fifth round knockout and I'm proud to be the new WBO European title holder. I'm working towards winning another title in the near future.

"It was an honor to have former world champion Istvan 'KoKo' Kovacs hand me the belt after the fight," he added.

Patel could now be in line to participate in the recently-announced World Boxing Super Series tournament with four spots left open to future competitors.

WBO title holder Zolani Tete and fellow world rulers Ryan Burnett and Manny Rodriguez will be joined by Naoya Inoue should the Japanese star defeat Jamie McDonnell this month.

That leaves another quartet of places up for grabs and Patel would be willing to consider any approach from the Sauerland brothers to be drafted.

"I'm open to all offers around the world, World Boxing Super Series or anything else but I understand some people would say I don't deserve it," Patel confirmed to WBN.

"I would love a shot at the WBSS. Everyone always thinks nothing of me, and if told u last year I would have had 12 fights after leaving Frank Warren collecting five belts along the way and a world ranking you would have laughed at me, but I did it all by KO's.

"Of course I understand I don't deserve to be in it but I would love a shot and the WBO ranking will help me in my future goals,"
