From the town of Newtownards. I have just read that (the creator of Peaky Blinders) Steven Knight is writing a film about the early days of the SAS and Tom Hardy will be playing the character of Paddy Mayne.

Which series do you recommend? I like that sort of thing, but mainly working my way through the Horus Heresy Black ibary stuff.
An update for you

Got around to reading the new Marko Kloos series The Palladium Wars. The 1st book is out and the 2nd has release date the 21st of July 2020. The story line is basically about the aftermath of space WW2, where we follow a released prisoner of war from who was a language specialist in the intelligence service of the space Waffen SS. The worlds are moving towards to post war normalcy but some unknown faction with cutting edge technology are attacking ships and allied occupiers on space Nazi Germany's home world

Hudson's kill by Paddy Hirsch.

It's enjoyable but not as good as his first in the series - The devil's half mile.

My fist Val McDermid book. It started off strong with a good story and a page turning narrative that primaly deals with familial DNA and how to track it down and acquire it in a cold case. Towards the end I was a little fed up with the writing of the male characters and politics involved that I thought to myself that the author was giving off strong lesbian vibes (googled it and was right) Then then ending was seeming rushed in a somewhat unsatisfying wrap up that it seemed to me that she gave up or hit her deadline. I got the book for nothing and gave it away for nothing, if another one came my way I'd probably read it but I wouldn't put money down for one in the future.

Finally started the Wheel of Time.

15% into the first one. Starting to intrigue me. The Trollocs have just attacked the village, and @Mat Cauthon and his two mates are about to set off for Tar Valon.

Island of Angry Ghosts - about the Batavia shipwreck off the West Aussie Coast in the 1600s and all the murder and madness that came with it. I think someone posted a true crime post on this before

But if not here's the Wiki link :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batavia_(ship)

Any good? I read Fitzsimons' book on it and that was a great yarn. This one is more about the effort to find the wreck?

yeah not bad first half is the story of the wreck etc the second half of the book is their expedition to find the wreck etc

Some of the terminology is a little dated as it was written in the 1960s

Such as?

If you haven't read Fitzsimons effort, it's thoroughly worth it. Massively smug wanker that he is, the guy knows how to tell a gripping story.
