There's probably not that many Trekkies on this board but if there are any what are your thoughts?

After the god awful discovery, and Patrick Stewart saying it's going to be influenced by trump and Brexit I'm worried.

Star Trek has always been influenced by things going on in society.

Has also always presented a leftist utopian vision.

Anyhow.

I'm looking forward to it...

Big Trekkie fan here, always preferred it over Star Wars in terms of a Sci-Fi franchise.

So I'm looking forward to it. Skeptical but hopeful is how I'm approaching this new series.

Let's hope it doesn't put Picard into a "discovery" type show

Huge Trekkie here. TNG was the perfect sequel to TOS and the characters were different enough to make it feel completely fresh.

Also fun trivia Picard wore a wig in early filming and it almost didn't get made.....

But I digress. After TNG it got bad and became infused with leftist politics. I mean yes TNG was leftist politically but it was generally done in a somewhat grounded manner and to show the potential goodness of mankind.

But then by Voyager it just got retarded politically and story wise. Janeway refusing to destroy the Borg even though, you know, they've wiped out thousands of species for the LOLZ.....

Or dinosaurs developing warp drive and leaving earth......(yes, that happened).

I couldn't watch enterprise but I read it sucked early but the last series was apparently amazing.

All this said I actually liked Discovery and look forwards to series 3 but I don't regard it as ST cannon and that helps me digest it's outlandish storyline.

Overlord DVD has some pretty scathing stuff on Picard so I don't know. He can be a troller sometimes so I take what he says with a dash of saltiness.

Let's see.....

DS9 was my favorite. I'm excited for the show because I always loved the Picard character. TS ruined this for me as I hadn't heard the Trump mention. I have no interest in a direct transparent allegory to modern political characters. Politics in shows don't bother me as a concept, but I find being beaten over the head with it obnoxious.

Hopefully they've figured out that that particular complaint is already being handled by 900 other tv shows, so it isn't needed. Or maybe they'll try to add a tiny bit of nuance to it?

Hated Discovery. Picard has promise. Great to see the crew from Enterprise reassembled including 7of9 from Voyager. From what i understand the theme of this one is the Federation breaking up...Art imitates life...

Picard took the same decision with that "Hugh" bullshit tbf. I agree that post TNG it went to shit though. I got sad.

 surely you have a YT clip to link or something?

Wiped out species for lolz? Is this a joke? They assimilated species to perfect the life of the universe. That is a noble goal. It is what we do when we give people eyeglasses and artificial hips and equip them with Wi-Fi and cell phones. We're not killing those people. We're making them better. When we assimilated Hawaii, it didn't kill all the Hawaiians. The ones who wanted to be better were brought into the fold and enrich us to this day. Western culture is like the Borg in this way and our goals have always been to make all life better by assimilating it. Not for "lolz" but for progress. And that is true progressivism. The Borg are the most noble and non-genocidal people of the entire program.
