This is progress.

In the Soviet Union these roles were unpaid.

Still think it could be higher pay though.

Rather than being about controlling people's speech, the university says it is "opening up a conversation".
And guess what are the top two "microaggressions"? Yeah, you know it.

  • "Stop making everything a race issue"
  • "Why are you searching for things to be offended about?"
In other words, we are going to control your speech and if you try to raise any objection or argue it isn't needed, appropriate and is downright fascist behaviour we are going to quote the first two and call you the racist fascist and throw you out of the university for wrongthink.

So they are being paid to deal with unintentional racism it says.

Well WTF about all the intentional racism?

While racism is obviously still an issue when was it a more pressing issue to deal with cultural appropriation than people having the shit kicked out of them for being a minority?

I'm obviously being flippant but "dealing with microaggressions" to me as a minority is just another way for over educated, often middle class white people to try and cope with their white privilege. Sure there are entire fields of work that are often closed off to certain minorities but hey as long as I stop a white student from asking where are you really from or wearing cornrows everything is fine and dandy and racism is being dealt with.

So they're going to pay some students £85 per week "to find racism"... what could possibly go wrong?

I knew a girl years ago who was doing a course in some Glasgow college in her early twenties who told me she was never racist until she started this college and faced the racism directed at her by South Asian boys, who would go around in groups, call her a racial slur in their own language because they thought she never knew what it meant, referred to all the young white girls as sluts and generally intimidated them in corridors and recreational areas, making they're life outside of lessons pretty hellish... this was about 10 years ago.

I wonder if the students they're incentivizing to find potential racism like:
  • "Stop making everything a race issue"
  • "Why are you searching for things to be offended about?"
... will be bold enough to deal with that kind of racism, or is it just the white people they will branding as racists for innocuous comments because some sensitive soul took it the wrong way.

I also wonder if they'll be honest enough to reply to that question with the correct answer of, "Because, like hundreds of thousands of people throughout western society, I'm actually being paid to foment division among people and provoke a sense of resentment, anger and entitlement within everyone who isn't the white, male enemy.

“We are among the biggest fools in history if we keep on paying people to make us hate each other. Whether it is called by pretty names like 'multiculturalism,' 'diversity' or 'gender awareness,' that is what it all boils down to.”

As an Asian I can say that we're a pretty xenophobic bunch, but that doesn't fit the narrative that all racial minorities are victims and white people are evil racists.

When a white person asks me how I deal with being a racial minority, I fucking point out to them there's well over a billion of us Chinese, so to me they are the racial minority lol.

This was more Pakistani, Bangladeshi descent type "Asian" she was referring to, there's an absolute ton of Chinese students in Glasgow but they generally just keep themselves to themselves, if they are being racist then they do it in private conversation and don't act it out in real world situations.

Probably but she never said herself what background they were specifically ... it was a girl in her class that was from their area that taught her to look out for the the word they were using and what it meant, basically "white slut" or something along those lines.

I used to live near the student accommodation in the west end.

They were great neighbours. Quiet, well behaved, and loads more Chinese shops, delis, and restaurants opened up.

Only issue was that they didn't understand the rules of the road to begin with, and would just walk on the road without bothering about traffic.

I have had a few Chinese mates, and a couple of girlfriends. Some born in the UK, some born in China or Hong Kong.

In general, they couldn't care less what people thought of China, or the Chinese. Why should they, there are billions of them, they gave a great history, and the country has been smashing it on the world stage.

Yeah, I was going to post that, the West End is heavily Chinese and it's easily the nicest part of Glasgow (outwith posh suburbs like Bearsden, etc) and also one of the safest... I have no issue walking around that area on my own any time of the day or night.
