Great return performance, can she finish it with the trophy? Pliskova will be a good test.it's hard to not like osaka.
it's a basic pattern of tennis that a chick wins first slam, does photoshoots and relaxes a bit, then barely wins a match for 6 months.
osaka won hers, was super classy, and has barely lost a point this week (slight exageration - 64%, 55% and 64% all vs top 30 lvl players)
For me the big question is how she'll perform at the next couple of slam (and the year-end finals). Ostapenko did okay at Wimbledon last year and this, but fell short of expectations otherwise. Bencic, Stephens, Ostapenko, Osaka, Pliskova, Svitolina, Kasatkina, Muguruza - either pressure and mental midgetry or injury and physical toll, but so far neither of these very talented young women stayed consistent.
So we end up with these Halep, Woznicaki type of mentally strong, well-conditioned grinders at the top. They won a slam, fair enough, but after how many years of getting spanked by a talent at some point? An Ostapenko or Osaka doesn't need a fair draw to win it all when they are on fire, and I wish this young generation to find consistency and have some great rivalries between them, which is currently lacking. So far they perform then they lose to B- level all over the place, which is why my ATP : WTA ratio is like 8 : 2.
