Guy can't play off clay apparently, but finishes this decade with the most wins at the US Open...
It's pretty much a certainty, IMO. In all likelihood, he wins Paris again next year. That's 20. He's also quite formiddable everywhere else and could conceivably take one of the hardcourt slams (he has more US open titles than Djokovic).Yes, he'll probably beat his GS record, but it's not certain.
There's always the possibility of the next ATG bursting on the scene.....maybe even Med.
Fed beat Rafa at Wimbledon came within ONE point of beating Novak.Fed has two great years left, I think, and could conceivably not win a thing as he'll likely have to get through Rafa AND Novak each time, as he is pretty much stuck at number 3.
You're forgetting Nadal has olympic gold too. What a champ! And grabbing that number 1 spot is a formality considering how much Nole defends and how much Rafa can gain.
So back to our earlier conversation, the crown. No not that one The World Tour Finals: the Big Three are now tied with 54 big titles each, 20-19-16 slams, 6-0-5 ATP WTFs, 28-33-35 Masters. IMO Rafa can and now it's likely will catch Federer, but for the GOAT conversation he could really do with completing his collection come november.
This is PERFECT timing: he's clearly in the best physical from between the big boys and the kind of aggression he tried but didn't quite succeeded vs. Nole earlier this year was working like a charm in Canada and New York. So this is his time to make history in London, and chances are great that he will. What do you think?
By 'proper competition', you mean two top 3 ATGs who happen to 5-6 years younger than he is, right? The fall off of Federer winning titles once he had proper competition is quite shocking.
He had 16 masters titles by 2009. He's won 12 in 10 years since.
He had 15 grand slams by 2019. He's won 5 in 10 years since.
Hasn't won an end of year finals since 2011.
In that 10 year period, he's won 3 slams on hard courts. Nadal has won 5 on hard courts in the same time. One of them is supposed to be a hard court master and the other is only good on clay??
