Thiem has really come a long way on hardcourts and I now consider that his best surface.
Results agree, with that said, the many clay wins over Rafa and Nole makes him as good on dirt too. Plays indoors well too and has so much energy, only surface not quite figured out is grass, but Rafa, Nole did eventually, so I think he'll have success there too.

Maybe, I'm not sure. Results wise he has had more success and has maybe shown a higher level but you cant ignore that many of his shots are amplified on a claycourt.

I think his agressive game works well on hardcourts, hes so willing to go for his shots and that helps on a hardcourt, hes willing to miss and go big again and again. Hes brilliant to watch. Hitting 100mph forehands on critical points inside out and they are not ball bashes they have plenty of built in safety because he hits with so much spin. You cant not admire his game imo, yesterdays match was great.

I think running into Rafa 3 straights years at the french was the only thing stopping him from holding 3 RG titles in a row. Its a much tougher challenge than beating anyone else anywhere to be fair.

Medvedev v Djokovic could be equally as good as Rafa v Thiem in a different way.

Both can return well, change direction with ease on the backhand side and defend like crazy. Expect a tactical match, a lot of rallys and maybe exhaustion if they both hit their heights. Just not sure Danil has the weapons to get over the line. Hes not got anything particularly big in his locker

Daniil could be Nole's boogeyman much like Dominic is Rafa's. Even with fast indoors favoring Djokovic it's a tough job putting a ball past Medvedev as Zverev found out. Especially since Novak's shoulder injury he's more into precise serving over power, so there's more chance putting it back in play by a great returner such as Daniil. On the other hand, Novak is the more aggressive player when dialed in and needs to be to win this match under 2 hours, so I think he'll come out swinging. Question is: can Daniil get under his skin?

He's not the best until he takes a GS final from either Novak or Rafa. That loss the Diego at the FO concerned me; the Argentinian was playing absolutely possessed, but Rafa and Novak find a way to reel peaking opponents in and bring them down a couple of levels.

Thiem has the tools, but he has to develop the attitude to become a dream killer.

Medvedev is a big problem for Novak that much is obvious. Sure he served well tonight but Novak despite having a magical ability to open the court can't finish the point, Medvedev gives him little pace to work with which is one of the few problems for Djokovic and is happy to grind away taking no risks. Matchup to keep an eye on. It takes a lot of variety to open up Medvedev from the baseline or beast like pace.

Seemed like Novak lost heart very quickly again despite starting really well, he must be horrible to play against

I'd like to see a Med v Thiem final. That would be excellent.

Rafa-Tsitsipas will be very interesting. Stefanos' big game is well suited for closed indoors but Nadal's style gives him troubles especially the lefty forehand attacking his one-handed backhand, something Thiem neutralizes much better. Winner moves on, loser goes home, Nadal is favorite but hey, there's been upsets already.

Hope Rafa continues to serve well as the return is probably Stefanos biggest weakness in his game. Last year Nadal beat him here in an excellent battle but he still went on to lift the title. I really want to see Medvedev v Nadal again. I love this matchup.

Nadal into semis, easy 3rd set. Djokovic can repeat if he gets past Zverev, but with that serve there are question marks, which means more excitement!

Novak thru Sacha in 2 but dunno lads... all around struggle with the serve, no free points and not like he's hitting winners either. Possible it's not some pain or lack of preparation but post-Covid issues many athletes struggle with. Anyways, into the semis so it's gonna be the old guard vs. the new. Djoko faces Domi.

Haven't seen any of this. Busy working for a change. Who's looking like the probable winner?
Voted u down. Work is no excuse.

I agree, and I'm normally a work shy bastard, but I've got a lot on right now.

I usually look forward to this as well.
