in a world lacking grass court specialists anyone can work out how to play their game and have good runs.

mostly the finals are about who has energy at the end of the season, this year is more interesting to me.

Two fantastic clashes of styles in the semi finals. Novak will have to bring his best level if Thiem reaches the heights he hit in the middle of the week. The return/serve battle will be key for him to dictate or he will get overwhelmed by Thiem.

I expect Thiem to take destiny into his own hands going huge with his inside out forehand. Its the biggest weapon on the court maybe in the entire sport.

I expect both will have to use their slices crosscourt a lot and Thiem has developed a fantastic one hit it so well against Nadal despite it being a nightmare pattern for him. The slice sets up their runaround forehands and lets them approach the net. I feel like Thiems level can drop and Novaks can rise here. I edge to Thiem but only because Novak has been a little off this week imo

Rafa v Medvedev is a very tactical matchup. I feel like Med is getting closer and tougher for Rafa. Nadal is player the next gen have more trouble with as his game is very different and has taken everyone except Davedenko and Nalbandian time to figure out how to attempt to play him.

Medvedev usually is not able to hit through courts comfortably thats not his game but here he seems to have found some extra juice on his strange flat forehand and his serve in particular. If he serves like he did against Novak it could be curtains for Rafa.

However Nadal does have patterns that matchup very well against Danil can he use them effectively on indoor hardcourt?

I expect lots of slices from Nadal at different depths down the line mostly as it will force Danil to go back down the line himself or risk feeding Nadals forehand down the line without pace and he can explode.

If Nadal slices short it will bring Danil in testing his racket head speed and net coverage against the passing shot legend

If Nadal gets in trouble he can spin the ball high and deep and reset to Danils backhand unless he changes his court position and stands much close in. Nadal will change the pace often in this matchup giving his very different looks from his forehand crosscourt.

I lean Nadal due to the matchup but it could easily go Danils way due to the serve and the surface. Hes a very smart player too, excellent serve, return, shot tolerance in his backhand. He moves really well too.

Thiem v Med rematch of the US Open would be awesome. So maybe the two titans give us that huh?

Thiem in 2, Medvedev in 3
That sound good at this time and is my preferred final despite being a Rafa fan.

Novak can raise his level for sure and this is his domain and we know Nadal despite being a bad combination of conditions for his game has played really well this week and will bring out many different patterns against Danil, not long to go, enjoy everyone. No beatdowns hopefully.

Don't think Novak can put together that serve that let him down in the past 4 months, 2021 the earliest. And now it looks like all pre-Aussie events are off and the open might be postponed, final decision in 3 days. :sad

With Novak hes struggling to finish points off despite his excellent point construction and when it gets tough hes having trouble finding an extra gear. His 1st serve saved him big time against Zverev in the critical moments. I think hes carrying an injury or is struggling with his confidence somethings up. He can still win this particularly if he can face Nadal in the final I'd give him a solid edge on his fave surface in that matchup.

Thiem should win today looking at form and their games. But this is indoor hardcourt and Djokovic is the best in the world. Lets see

Damn, Novak was this close to serve for the set, might have trouble now staying in it. He's playing good but inconsistent vs. a rock solid Thiem who's not giving much, kinda getting a taste of his own younger medicine.

Come ooooooon, what a tie-break! Novak back from the brink, wins breaker 12-10. How much does he have left in his tank for the 3rd?

I mean goddamn he lost one key point after another when had a look on the set, but somehow Novak'd it out.

And there you have it, Thiem wins the mini-classic in 3! Very nice comeback in the tie-break and better overall game, but incredible effort saving 5 match points by Novak, who can leave London proud. Good shit!
