Man... when you get Nadal/Fed/Djokovic playing against each other on anything but clay, you're pretty much guaranteed a great final. These kids, though? Just can't trust 'em.

18.

Whoa that was a performance worthy of the GOAT!

3 key takeaways:
  • Djokovic applied a faster pace Daniil was comfortable with
  • frankly, Medvedev had a shit day serving, probably because of
  • Novak studied the Daniil serve and was absolutely all over it
Medvedev's time will come, perhaps even this year, but he was nowhere near as confident as he was vs. Tsitsipas or vs. Nadal for that matter in the US Open. Djokovic is kinda his mirror image, and that means whichever player is setting up the pace wins in their rivalry, and he was at this B-game compared to his great victories over Nole in the past, who looked fresh and healthy. A bit harsh this score that won't do wonder for to his confidence, but he has my support out of the Nex Gen. Good run!

Once again: Djokovic is the GLOAT - greatest loser of all times - took three straight losses from Medvedev and forged a master ring to rule him where and when it mattered: at a grand slam final. I guess I underestimated him but father time is coming and he has limited number of opportunities left to play the numbers game with Fedal. In may respects, considering the quality of his opposition and H2H lead vs. his peers, he IS the greatest tennis player of all times. Just not according to the media that obviously hates his guts. Well, choke on this one, bitches! Haha.

Congrats to Novak Djokovic. That was about as dominant a performance as one can have in a hardcourt final, and it should lead to a very successful year.

Potentially psychologically devastating loss for Medvedev, on the other hand.

Haha Medvedev said when he was a shy teen wanting to talk to Novak but didn't dare, it was Djokovic that approached him, opened a friendly chat and later offered practice. So much for perceptions about a gentleman's character. Daniil also got some media slack over the years but looks like a top bloke without that "I'm special" 1% aura, you'd kinda like to hang out with them.

Just got back from the match. Went there thinking Dani was a real threat but after the first few games we knew it was all one-way Djoker. Top night.

Post match after the interviews were done, Nole could’ve gone back inside but instead spent a ton of time out with the fans, doing autographs, selfies and giving away his asics and top. Great fella.

Oooo you were that close to greatness? Congrats man, must've been a special treat. Closest I got to greatness was watching Borg-McEnroe from sponsors row but only the oldies version. A little chat with Ivanisevic & Karlovic too, top blokes plus with my boy Fucsovics, but never attended a slam or seen the Big Four live. Kinda jealous! Did cheer my heart out as the Hungarian team upset the Russian (Rublev, Medvedev) in a few Davis Cup epics what? 3 seasons ago? Something like that. I miss live tennis!

Key presser takeaways:
  • Djokovic don't like champagne. My man! That bubbly shit is for sissies & cokeheads, drink proper alcohol FFS!
  • Covid makes bringing the family around impossible, will plan to schedule 2021 with more home time with them
  • with Federer's no1 ranking record in bag, will focus on slam count, no tournament scheduled next
  • didn't know he was gonna play Raonic until the warm-up 2 hrs before went okay, did not do physical exercise for 1,5 days after Fritz
  • regarding medical examination and recovery, all of that will be featured in the documentary following his 2021 season
  • no hard feelings for media judging and questioning him as always without being there, knows how to block them out and respond
  • with limited preparations, quarantine probably tied into some of the players injuries in practice or on court, mentioning Dimitrov, Thiem, Berrettini among others
  • ignore the seemingly excuse making Daniil quote below "I didn't play my best", full accepts Djokovic was just that good
  • Medvedev calls Roga, Rafa and Nole the Three Cyborgs of tennis, Novak prefers the Three Knights
  • Daniil will be back in Rotterdam, plans to improve clay and grass play

... So no injury disclosure until the end of the year? That's pretty bizarre.

I’m just lucky I have a Slam in the city I live in.
I worked at the Aus Open in 2005, that was cool.

Borg Mac would’ve been epic.

it’s gonna be an interesting tennis year.

Djoker is just two away from becoming the GOAT.
After all things are said and done GOAT status will be

  1. Djokovic
  2. Nadal
  3. Federer

I miss the Sydney International, mostly for the big names of women's tennis it would draw, along with a decently strong men's draw (actually saw Medvedev play here in 2018). Also loved getting there early in the week and having a tonne of matches being played all over the tennis complex here, singles, doubles, men's and women's matches on all the outside courts, just free to roam around.

But since Sydney changed to the ATP Cup, I got to see a chapter in the Nole/Rafa rivalry, which was awesome. Also saw Nole v Medvedev, Rafa v De Minaur, Kyrgios v RBA, and some great doubles...

Nice one. I'm the same, prefer getting there early in the week with all of the courts full. Roaming from court to court with beer in hand makes for a good day out.
