Thiem vs Zverev. New major champion. Thiems 4th major final. Zverevs 1st.

Thiem has looked incredible, Zverev has looked an absolute shambles will it be a blowout? Is Thiems ankle okay?
Zverev MUST win the serve return battle as very few can compete from the baseline. First serve percentage gets overrated by many but its crucial in this match.

Who will win the crosscourt patterns. Backhand to backhand slight edge to Zverev but Thiem will slice at a high rate and change the pattern.
Forehand to forehand Zverev will have to get out of that pattern but can he change directions with the pace and spin Thiem possesses? He needs to use his backhand down the line when Thiem sacrifices his court position.

Lets see maybe Zverev serves at 80% 1st in play and wins them all...

Thiem looks very nervous. Serve is poor. Zverev meanwhile looks a different player. Can he keep the 1st serve in at this high rate

What on earth is happening to him. He is getting tight even with simple rally balls into Zverevs forehand. Only shot that is working is his wide serve in the deuce court. Shame. What a shite US Open. Being dismantled by Zverev ffs

Zverev will be a very interesting project for David Ferrer.

He struggled to close that out big time despite a double break

We may get something out of this set, and if Dominic somehow wins it... who knows. At least that's the hope.
That's no hope but a correct prediction!

However, I must sleep soon. Not that this kept me from it so far but now both will have something to build on...

Thiem is slowly turning this into the physical affair that was supposed to be his tactic from the get go, but Sacha was too sharp for that. However, as we are into the 4th set that long SF match of Zverev might creep in on his legs.

And just like that, we're in the fifth. As long as Thiem can keep the spin high and speed low it's his game. Zverev need to go for clean winner and perhaps creeps back up to the net which brought him success early on. Come on lets see a fitting GS fifth!
