Cricket has been absolutely epic. Australia manhandled by a Kholi-less India, Rahane turns in one of the best centuries this year, 1-1.

Sri Lanka breaks records in South Africa only to be absolutely cuffed in the first test in Africa, 1-0.

And New Zealand win basically absolutely every single session against Pakistan only to find themselves in need of six wickets in the final session on Day 5 at the Bay Oval.

Sensational cricket all week but this is best of all. Cannot go to bed, which is when you know they are nailing it.

Pakistan are 226-4

Alam 95 (about to be the best century this week, I hope)

Good tense finish in the NZ game. Pakistan bowled out with just 5 overs left on day 5. Fair result. Pakistan fought hard and showed a lot of grit, but NZ were just better.

:hat

I think Pakistan will probably just crumble in the second test now, would be very like them. Sri Lanka too. It's Australia-India III that is interesting now.

3 very special overs from Tim Southee this morning so far at Hagley. Really special. Took Shan with a yorker right on the toe after putting seven balls on a dime further down the pitch angling for off. Shan, absolutely not prepared for it, tricked, trapped, plum out, as out as a man can be LBW, and...appeals. Worst appeal I have ever seen, literally.

Pakistan, who lost the toss, are about to be put on the rack again I think.

12-1

Pakistan...kinda looked like they might sort it for themselves there for a bit with the two Alis providing stiff resistance, but in the end it went as expected.

Pakistan are 88-4.

Only Azhar has remained strong on 52, and a grand 52 at that between that early nightmare from Southee. It's Kyle Jaimeson, on his home ground, that is the star, taking three wickets for 26. It's been some performance and some unplayable stuff. NZ about to find their fourth bowler as they chase the top spot?

Jamieson is a star in the making. That bouncer to Alam was unplayable. As a left handed batsman myself, that gave me nightmares just watching it lol.

I fully expect Jamieson to become one of the better test bowlers in the world for the next 5 years to come.

Pakistan made it to the end of Day 1 and gathered 297 runs. Pakistan will be opening the bowling now with Afridi looking for and hoping for any movement of any kind. first few balls, just wildness - they will need to gather control if there is no movement.

0-0.

Great appeal from Pakistan to facilitate their first wicket.

Blundell got took for 16 in 54 balls by Faheem who angled one beautifully across him to take leg. You can see why the umpire thought not out but my immediate feeling was that it was just the opposite. Pakistan needed that wicket badly.

This brings the world's best batsman to the crease. Kane Williamson, now officially the world's number one is in rare form. Horribel to dismiss an opener and get this beast at the crease.

New Zealand are 52-1. Very simple now, for 1 or for 2 will decide who wins this session, unless someone puts their foot down.

Latham is gone one ball later! Wtf was that - Shaheem skips one off the deck and a beautiful catch at slip from Sohail. The game is very much on! Another wicket from Pakistan before lunch would pop the cat among the pigeons. I love this game. As Boycott always said, add two wickets to the score - how do you feel now?

New Zealand are 52-2.

Apparently Mohammad Asif said that Pakistan's young bowlers, 17-18 year olds, are all in their late 20s...why? What would they have to gain from this? I know it's not uncommon but is there any logic as to why that could be true or is it just nonsense? I wouldn't be surprised if the odd player had an unknown DOB but it seems a strange accusation to make, the young Pakistani bowlers should be getting support not slurs. I like their attack.

There's always a bit of wildness surrounding this stuff. The idea, very crudely put, is that when someone comes from a rural area to a centre of excellence or a club side or whatever, they lie about because they're more likely to be taken on.

A brilliant but erratic 14 year old is far more attractive to a cricketing side than a brilliant but erratic 19 year old.

The truth is, nobody knows; it's just talked around. Nobody asks too many questions because who would you ask? Not a lot of birth certificate patter in some corners of the world.

New Zealand pretty much cleared up from for 3, making 286-3. The might Kane Wiliamson has made yet another century.

Put South Africa-Sri Lanka on just to see how SL would do at the beginning of their second, rescue innings and they are 1-1

Held it together not bat though.

150-4.

That's a five run lead with Dimuth Karunaratne (91) still at the crease. Something could happen. Probably won't though.

Now it's Pakistan's turn to take a stab at avoiding a molesting. NZ are 286-3 with Kane at the crease on 112 - 11 runs behind.

Main attrition tonight is to see just how high Kane can climb.
