India 3 for 200 plus, and this has already started to slip away from Australia. Particularly when you factor in we have to bat last.

Labuschagne got taken for 12 in his solitary over.

Just as well we got Kohli cheaply or things would be way worse.

India are now 228-4, beautiful climbing short ball banged in from Starc and Rahane get caught lifting his hands to it without a stroke. Good-day.

But it's Pujara. He is on 94, they just can't get him out, on his way to yet another 100, his third of the series. Hope he makes it.

Pujara 94
Vihara 0

Big innings for Vihara this.

18th test 100 from Pujara.

He is a sick fuck.

They just can't get him out.

An average very close to 50 and he does not flash. These are high class test innings.

Stumps, Day One and he temptation is to say: Australia can't win.

303-4, 300 runs in a day, they've rattled along in the last hour with Pujara and Vihari racing along.

It's just one series so you want to be a bit calm about it, but it's not like Pujara's debuting. Is this him kicking on, finding another level? I'm not buying that the Australian attack has "gone bad" and Starc, for all that he's arguably struggling a bit (that breakdown of his thumb position during commentary was fascinating) steamed in some unplayable deliveries today.

And Pujara just glides through it all.

Pujara 130
Vihari 39

Double for Pujara is top of the wish list for tomorrow.

South Africa-Pakistan II kicks off in about 90 minutes.

SA have basically stated they are going to recall Vernon Philander for the Newlands test, a ground at which he excels. Who will make way is the question...

Abass is back. Pressure is on.

I'm off back t work. What a fucking blow.

Even allowing for India's long tail Australia are already in deep shit.

Batting last Australia will need a lead of probably 80 to 100 on 1st innings. That already amounts to us needing a 1st innings total in excess of 400, and with 6 wickets standing that could blow out substantially.

Pakistan getting flogged right from the start.

New Zealand killed Sri Lanka too, that low-polygon-count-headed asshole Martin Guptill hit a century.

Tell me this fucking guy wouldn't have been ideal for a N64 or PS2 game.

:hat

Yes, South Africa have scanted Pakistan.

Put them in and bowled them out for 177.

Steyn has been better, Rabada has been his usual, but again Olivier is the standout and SA must be overjoyed by this. 4-forty-something; there's some talk of his not deserving all of these wickets today and that some questionable shots from PAK helped - sure. But he bowled aggressively, with really good life and throwing down consecutive overs in heat. It was an exceptional performance, and means his eleven wickets in the last match can no longer be regarded a freak.

Always wait and see what it is that the opposition does before writing off the first team, but 177 is unlikely to be enough. I'm excited to see what they do with the ball though, as always.

Ahmed made 56; Masood 46; Amir a very brave 22 at the end.

No other contributions.

Awful, SA are just tearing PAK apart, it's horrible. They've already cut the PAK lead to 100; they're not even batting carefully or respectfully just knocking them about. Abbas is going at 5 an over :-O

It's making me sad inside.

Also, can't really watch because people keep annoying me about work stuff. The whole thing is a nightmare.

SA 79-1, PAK lead is 98.

Markram 52
Amla 6

Terrible.

SA trail Pakistan by 54 runs at stumps.

They've lost 2 wickets.

Lots and lots of batting to come tomorrow.

It'd be nice to hope that Pakistan can come out first session and murder the SA top order now the openers have been taken. But. I don't think that will happen.

Marnus Labuschagne has only has bowled 4 of the 90 overs so far. But apparently he will be batting at 3.

Labuschagne at 3??? When his average with the bat at lower levels this season is less than 30? WTF!

The forecast today for the Sydney Test is a top temp of 28C.

Just as well they aren't playing in Melbourne today because we are in for 42C.

Pujara has posted his 150 and there is no respite in site.

In series of 4 Tests or less, in the history of Test cricket, Pujara is closing in on the record for the most number of balls faced.

Since 2017 there has been only 4 occasions where a batsman has faced in excess of 300 balls in a Test innings.

In each case the batsman's name has been Cheteshwar Pujara.

The guy is a machine.

Finally got Pujara! But not before he had complied 193 off 373 deliveries.

Pujara has faced a total of 1258 balls for the series. More than any batsman has faced in a series of 4 Tests or less in history and he still might get another hit in the 2nd innings.

Divide the 1258 balls Pujara has faced by the 7 times he has batted and his average stay in this series is 180 balls! :yikes
