Stumps, Day One and he temptation is to say: Australia can't win.
303-4, 300 runs in a day, they've rattled along in the last hour with Pujara and Vihari racing along.
It's just one series so you want to be a bit calm about it, but it's not like Pujara's debuting. Is this him kicking on, finding another level? I'm not buying that the Australian attack has "gone bad" and Starc, for all that he's arguably struggling a bit (that breakdown of his thumb position during commentary was fascinating) steamed in some unplayable deliveries today.
And Pujara just glides through it all.
Double for Pujara is top of the wish list for tomorrow.
Even allowing for India's long tail Australia are already in deep shit.
Batting last Australia will need a lead of probably 80 to 100 on 1st innings. That already amounts to us needing a 1st innings total in excess of 400, and with 6 wickets standing that could blow out substantially.
Steyn has been better, Rabada has been his usual, but again Olivier is the standout and SA must be overjoyed by this. 4-forty-something; there's some talk of his not deserving all of these wickets today and that some questionable shots from PAK helped - sure. But he bowled aggressively, with really good life and throwing down consecutive overs in heat. It was an exceptional performance, and means his eleven wickets in the last match can no longer be regarded a freak.
Always wait and see what it is that the opposition does before writing off the first team, but 177 is unlikely to be enough. I'm excited to see what they do with the ball though, as always.
Ahmed made 56; Masood 46; Amir a very brave 22 at the end.
Awful, SA are just tearing PAK apart, it's horrible. They've already cut the PAK lead to 100; they're not even batting carefully or respectfully just knocking them about. Abbas is going at 5 an over :-O
It's making me sad inside.
Also, can't really watch because people keep annoying me about work stuff. The whole thing is a nightmare.
