The 10 Greatest Bantams of All Time

  • Latest update: Apologies for errors yesterday, due to php resource allocation needs configuring to suit the server, and can only do that when we know what's not working.

There should be no more errors now, but there might be a bit more configuring required. If you get any error 500's or other errors browsing, please send me a pm with your ip address, time of error (and your timezone if not uk), and the page you're trying to access.

Should be leading to some big performance increase and new features. Thanks to everyone for patience and support.

With the WBSS bantam tournament starting this weekend, Boxing Monthly asked me to do a top 10 for them.

It’s pretty epic, longer than Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’, and is hopefully packed with enough detail to keep you guys engaged.

Two parts have gone up so far. The introduction, and the 10th ranked great. No.9 will be up tomorrow, and I’ll pop back to post it.

Thoughts and critique are welcome as always.

Very well done. Almost too well, ha ha. Readers are going to get a lot of information if they stick with it. Overall the story had a pretty good flow, stayed pretty engaging, but reading 10 write ups that long will be War and Peace-esque.

This is the second shortest.

In my defense, Animal Farm is pretty much regarded as the shortest ‘novel’. This is novella sized overall!

I know it’s big, but hopefully the pacing will remain consistent. And some of the larger ones are told in a different fashion (non-linear for example) so hopefully will keep you engaged mate!

Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment. It is very much appreciated.

Any time. I actually write for a baseball site and know Animal Farm.

I've always felt that the bantam division was THE most difficult of the major weight classes for drawing up a top 10 list. It's the only one of the major classes that doesn't have a clear one or two favorite(s) for the #1 spot IMO. A number of its standout greats (Brown, Zarate, Ortiz) had lengthy title reigns against somewhat thin competition. It's also hard for me to make Olivares or Jofre a clear #1, as they each had a key arch rival during their title runs that they failed to beat, despite trying more than once.

Loved seeing Rose get recognized. He amassed a very impressive resume in a short time. My only contention would be that I think you're a bit too harsh on his supposed lack of power - yes, he wasn't a big KO puncher, but he hit hard enough to get opponents' respect and keep them honest. He gave Harada quite a body beating in their fight, too.

Yeah, when I was a kid they took us to one of those kinds of farms. We went to another one too that was like just people with candles and cheese and stuff but the first one that they took us to was that kind.
