Who do you WANT to win? (Not who do you think WILL win)

  • I want the Fighting Irish to win

  • I want the 209 to represent again

  • I just want a good, action-packed fight like the last one

  • Test to see if I can change the poll?

  • Are these options 4 and 5?

Huge card this weekend. 7 fights where I am invested in the outcome ahead of time.

Jones vs Smith: Aside from being the most generic name combo in PPV history, I'm happy with either outcome for this fight. I always cheer for Jones to win, but I don't mind if he loses this one. Smith is an action fighter and I really respect the way he carries himself and the way he talks about this fight. He would be a good guy to spring the biggest upset in MMA history.

Woodley vs Usman: I like Usman, but I'm happy to see Woodley retain. He's really grown on me in and out of the cage the last 18 months or so. Quite happy to see him build a nice legacy as WW champ.

Lawler-Askren: Usually happy to cheer for the ruthless one, but I'll be straight up gutted if the funky one takes an L in his UFC debut. I really enjoy watching Askren fight.

Don't give a fuck about the Tecia Torres fight.

Don't know fuck all about Pedro Munhoz, but I'm hoping Garbrandt gets back on track.

Zabit vs Jeremy Stephens is a tremendous fight, and exactly the right matchup for Zabit right now. Very much looking forward to this one.

Looking forward to seeing Johnny Walker fight again as well, though I'm not sold on him just yet. He still seems very raw, but has the athleticism and charisma to potentially make some noise in a shallow division.

And I'm impressed that Diego is still hanging on..... but I still hope that Mickey Gall smashes him.

Deep card for sure, though. Multiple fights worth watching on the prelims, and 4 out of 5 main card fights are good matches.

Youtube autoplayed a video of Anthony Smith talking with Matt Serra about himself and his title shot. Really good stuff, recommended if anyone has half an hour on the train or whatever.

Confident without being arrogant, really well-spoken, grounded and self-aware, and I really like the way he's approaching this and the perspective he has. A year ago, I didn't know who the fuck Anthony Smith was. Now? Big fan, and I'll be cheering his career going forward regardless of the result of this fight.

I dunno if I'll root for him for every fight, but I'm definitely rooting for him this weekend. He's obviously a good dude and Jones is...not. I don't see what chance dude has, but anything is possible when fists are flying.

Just put some change on Smith, just in case.

$13 on Smith by TKO @ $10
$12 on Smith by submission @ 19

So if Smith wins by TKO, I profit $105. If he wins by submission, I profit by $203.

It's a tremendous card and I'm going to stream it anyway, so I'm fine with eating a $25 loss when Jones inevitably beats him. But I'm cheering for Smith, and if he somehow becomes the man who eclipses Matt Serra.... then I want to have made a nice little profit on it, without having gone too crazy on a bet I fully expect to lose.

Kamaru has an enormous chip on his shoulder. Will it be enough to push Woodley past his limit? Not the best feeling about Askren either. Would be really great if I could see some serious training footage from both of them. In his last few fights, Askren looked like he had kind of pushed past his previous level of striking distance understanding.

Fucking fantastic card, I like Lawler but it’s hard to see him getting back on top, of Askren wins it’s great for the division and possibly sport. I hope Woodley puts on a show, and Garbrandt bounces back. Can’t wait to watch this one.

I agree with all of these. Askren is the one I'm most nervous about. He kept getting better and better during his career, then halted that progress for a year. Dunno if he will be ready to cover the distance that Lawler is going to create.

So happy to see Woodley outwrestled, Askren given a close call, and Garbrandt given another reminder of how much fight IQ he lacks.

Love Zabit and Walker, too, so chuffed they both won. Shame about Gall but I can’t hate anything about Sanchez, I’ve loved him since I watched TUF 1 about 4-5 years ago.

Pretty much. Would have enjoyed seeing Woodley win with a grudge match against Colby next...oh well. Not too big of a deal.

What I wanna talk about a little was the Askren fight. I've watched it a few times now (thanks internet) and read what people on the internet have to say. Either I've forgotten how to watch fights, or people have no idea what the hell they are watching. It was a very obvious tale of 2 fights. The first fight, he did a great setup and almost got it and made a dumb error, giving Lawler that slam and laying down that hammer for 30 seconds. To be fair, not many people from 155-185 could survive that GnP. Especially with Lawler having control of the wrist and all of that leverage on his punches. He survived it pretty well and got himself back up. The second fight, he pressures him to the fence, works a chain of like 3 takedowns, and gets it. Lawler looked like he was already starting to be sapped from the fence pressure, and he got completely schooled with and after the takedown. Askren got that choke in, and Lawler was going nowhere. Askren can squeeze that neck for that last minute and a half or so without breaking a sweat, and that motherfucker would have probably been completely out in about 15-20 seconds. Not a good stoppage, but I dont think anything changed in the end. All in all I was impressed, and glad to see Lawler in such great condition again. He's gonna fuck some people up on his way back to the top. Absolutely no real reason to run this fight back. Doesn't do much from anyone, and keeps both fighters from much much better matchups.

Cody's dumb ass... I don't even know what to say.

Woodley got his ass beat. Not much to say. Kamaru was able to go forward and take the life out of T-Wood. Jones...I have nothing really to say about that fight.

Woodley one of those weird characters who has got to the top of a combat sport without appearing to have much fight in him.

Can't believe how he appeared to accept defeat so quickly and not really try anything.

Garbrandt is a dumbass.

I bet against him, I fancied Munhoz. But once again it was in an accy which Woodley let me down on.

Woodley looked like he was in his late 30s. Not saying that that is why he lost, but that was one of my initial thoughts. Age is a motherfucker. He's already a guy who waits for his angle/shot anyway. Slow his reflexes down the tiniest microsecond, and put him in there with a guy who can push him around a bit and continue to come forward...not great. Usman did show a couple of things that I think could be bad for him though. He was just following Woodley around, and he didn't look super technical in a number of positions. I think the correct wrestler might beat him fairly early. Don't think Colby has that in him though.

I was so impressed with Usman. I knew he was very good but I never expected him to completely nullify and dominate Woodley like that.

He looks like a freak. The ease with which he was moving Woodley around was scary.

Which wrestler could you see getting the better of him?
