Who do you WANT to win? (Not who do you think WILL win)

  • I want the Fighting Irish to win

  • I want the 209 to represent again

  • I just want a good, action-packed fight like the last one

  • Test to see if I can change the poll?

  • Are these options 4 and 5?

I just want to see this fucking fight. I’ve been more and more devastated every time it’s fallen through.

Ferguson’s already two years older than I’d have liked for this match-up. If there’s any reason it doesn’t happen this year, then I’m saying it never happens, and that would be a fucking travesty.

Probably the best 3 match ups I can remember since I started watching

Whoever wins from Khabib-Tony has a 13 fight win streak, a win over the other one and an undisputed title when the division is probably at its all time strongest.

Pretty fucking solid criteria for an ATG top 5 ranking.

Yeah, good shout. If Khabib wins he’d definitely have to be in there. A Ferguson win would make him a contentious choice as a top 5 ATG though, he’d have zero title defences, and when you’re splitting the very best into a top 5 I’d say that would come into play.

The fight is as hard now for Tony as it ever was for sure. Khabib has came on loads

Also, I saw a GSP interview earlier where he said the UFC turned down the chance to make him vs Khabib at a catch-weight. They weren’t interested. Mugs.

In fairness to Tony mate, when he fought Kevin Lee In 2017 that should have been for the ‘real’ belt and not the interim one.

I mean let’s be honest, it’s not like Conor was ever coming back.

It doesn’t make any sense to me how Tony fought after Conor basically retired and got an interim strap and then Khabib gets the ‘real’ title.

You could argue that Tony won the title and never lost it and also you could say Khabib has 2 defences.

In all honesty, the true 155 pound champion is whoever wins from Khabib or Tony.

When either man wins and goes onto defend then fair enough.

However, I’m not prepared to acknowledge either Khabib or Tony as champion until one of them beats the other one.

This is the problem when you create interim belts and strip people for no reason it just devalues the belt completely

I genuinely couldn’t give a fuck who has the belt any more or who’s considered champ I just want to see Tony and Khabib throw down and that’s it. That’s all I want

Yeah Tony should have been champ after that fight, for sure.

I’d be happy to see Khabib vs Ferguson a couple of times unless it’s a one-sided smesh massacre from Khabib.

If Khabib wins I think McGregor might get the next shot. I’ve got a feeling in my bones he’ll be back and the UFC will give him an entirely undeserved title shot just for the PPV and backstory sales.

Nah. If I was Dana, I wouldn't have signed that fight either.

To be honest I’d accept McGregor fighting the winner as long as we get Tony vs Khabib first

Do you think he could force a scramble with a dance attempt?

Not that he needs anyone’s advice for grappling but I think Khabib would benefit from getting someone like Keenan Cornelius in camp and getting him to focus purely on trying chokes while Khabib does takedowns and transitions. He’s tall, slim, and skilful as fuck (definitely better BJJ than Ferguson, too), I can’t think of anyone that really replicates Ferguson so that’s the best you’d get.

I think Ferguson’s overrated on the feet and Khabib’s underrated, so these chokes during scrambles are where Khabib could lose that fight, imo.
His coach said Khabib has never been submitted, ever.

If he's never been subbed then he's an asshole to train with. I believe it though. The kind of pressure he brings has to come from extraordinary training. Poirier said, between rounds, "I can't get him off me". That is a horrifying realization. That guillotine was clearly the ace in the hole that he worked over and over and over and Khabib jumped out of position and killed it and Poirier, a guy who pushed Justin passed his limits just gave up after that. That is an absolutely terrifying kind of pressure.

That’s where Tony is a different proposition though mate Khabib can do whatever he likes Tony will not break

I’d have definitely kept it in the bank. Saying ‘no’ is ridiculous, it’s not very often that two fighters of that calibre have the chance to improve their legacy by fighting each other.

I’d have said that Khabib needs to have his Poirier and Ferguson fights, and then if he wins those we’ll make the GSP fight.

Yeah, that’s crazy when you think that he trains with Rockhold sometimes.

Either way, my point is that Tony’s best hope is with a submission, imo, so I’d be getting some top BJJ guys in for that fight. Tony’s not outwrestling him or stopping the takedowns for the whole fight, so training the scrambles and top control against a legit, world class submission artist would be worthwhile.

I honestly think that’s Khabib’s greatest asset. You can literally see his opponent’s soul leave through their eyes. I saw it with Barboza, and I saw it with Poirier as soon as Khabib’s head popped out of that guillotine and he went straight to his back with two on one arm control. You could see that exact submission was Poirier’s entire plan, and it was closer than anyone else had come, tbf.

To spend 4 months preparing to defend takedowns and clinches on the fence, and then finish round 1 having been absolutely dominated in those exact areas must be so demoralising. It must feel like all hope is fucking lost and the whole training camp was pointless.

Amazing that Khabib has never been submitted at AKA but let’s be honest a real fight is different as nobody has ever tried to submit him at AKA after butchering him with elbows for 4 rounds 20 minutes deep into a title fight

Yeah, I agree with that. Tony’s legitimately a bit mentally ill, I think. Just an absolute animal.

I can’t see Khabib demoralising him, and I can’t see him outworking him.
