Amazon's doing a weekly podcast w/writers, creators & cast, cool, but I'll watch post-season so they don't spoil anything.
What hype? Hard sci-fi literally has none.

It is by far the best hard sci-fi series this past decade IMO and it's gunning toward this generation. It just happens that season 1 is by far The Expanse's worst so if u stuck there get on with it, I promise improvement, if ur into S02/S03 and still not grabbed, don't feel bad abandoning it.
It's just always improving, just this season the already impressive visuals kicked up a notch and I had to steal the freaking 4K copy cause Amazon wouldn't stream it to me above 1080p, WTF Jeff Bezos, ya cunt?
When I say little to no hype I mean that hard sci-fi has a very small audience so if you happen to be a space fan, sure you hear about it, otherwise you don't. It's pure luck and incredible human generosity that I'm here to spread the good word, and still I think a total of 5-6 of us are watching, cause it's hard sci-fi. And US astronauts didn't bring a protomolecule teddy bear up to the ISS but Baby fuckin Yoda - now that's hype.

Fair. I've always been waiting for the next Babylon 5, myself. I'll give it 1 more shot. Maybe I'll get it this time. No shortage of good acting in it. I did notice that.
Good lad. Not gonna lie, I was hooked right by this scene in the pilot. Other series upon change of direction & velocity in space: "yeah let's fucking warp there, drunk ppl., hold onto your beer! ... kay, we there, keep drinking" The Expanse:

So I wasn't shocked upon Amazon announcement that Season 6 next year (Covid permitting) will be The Expanse's last, matter of fact no one said 'cancelled' that moment since it felt like after the first 3 seasons ending on a high note on SyFy, it'll repeat with the next 3 on Amazon and I'm totally okay with that. 'Cancelled' talk came later.
Now it appears Amazon always looked to finish in 6 seasons Alcon Group who fully owns the rights have plans beyond that may or may not come to fruition, but current storyline is expected to be fully closed. That's all they're gonna say, but knowing sci-fi's hard time on TV, history is favorable as short-lived Firefly, slightly luckier Battlestar Galactica and even Cowboy Bebop got their TV movies, and those are a boom these days! (Deadwood: The Movie, El Camino / Breaking Bad, The Many Saints of Newark / Sopranos. I'd say there's a decent chance with a vocal fanbase and production quality maintained, there's at least a major storyline waiting for the 2-hour format.

Guess meteor physics were correct and even the 10th of Tunguska energy could wipe megapolises clean or launch a mass murdering tsunami, and we were lucky the Chelyabinsk one blew up mid-air and was not near a metropolis. So I suppose if you slingshot relatively small rocks and cover'em in 200 years worth of stealth tech you can make 'em invisible up to the last moments, then it's nuke'em or die, and even if you hit directly it'll blow up to smaller deadly (and now radioactive) pieces to rain upon your head. Of course far more efficient and safe would be knocking it off its trajectory without breaking it apart and make it miss Earth, but that's not an option if you detect it too late and it's coming in too fast.
The Expanse once again underlines how selective other sci-fi shows and movies are about physics, respecting some while ignoring obvious others. The biggest weapon a spaceship could mustard is not a giant Gatling gun or a nuke but the ship itself - a relative small one with the right shape, enough shielding and a fusion reactor combined with extreme velocity and right angle of attack can turn it into a giant meteor slash hydrogen bomb that could render New York City lifeless inside 30 seconds, which is why you don't see just about anyone getting a licence to do orbital launches and have nuclear reactors keeping the lights up.
The lack of understanding of the spaceship being the weapon comes down crashing when something like Star Wars uses it out of the blue, like in that newer episode where some rouge cunt warped through some giant cunt imperial cruiser and destroyed it in a second - fans felt cheated and shouted "OH, you can do THAT? Then why the cunt not blow up the Death Star in each episode like that?" Um... yeah, welcome to physics...
Also, how good is the writing in The Expanse? It pulls the rug from under you over and over again, and no predictable Nolan style twist for the sake of it either, it puts random into the equation better than any other show I can name incl. GoT. Another example:

That is correct sir, any world builder series takes hours of investment before you get familiar with the setting and the players, see The Wire or GoT, and then on it's quality hard sci-fi if that's your thing (clearly a no go for most - are you an average wurzt, kopeng?)
