I can dig that it ends in 6 seasons, if that was the creators intention. Feels like the 1st 3 was outstanding and reached the point of a need of a new beginning, which was the surprisingly small scale yet enjoyable 4th. Now it's a question is how us, humanity as a whole can, if, overcome our own hurdles or die tryin. Beltalowda!

Really glad it will end at season 6. It would be awful to net get an ending to the story so knowing they can build to one organically and do it right is great. Too many great shows either disappear without an end or get the news they will end half way through a season so put a disappointing finish on it.

Goddamn, I need to watch this show. Watched the first half of the first episode of season one twice, but got interrupted both times. Really like the premise of the show, from what I understand of it.

While Amazon pulled the plug on The Expanse beyond season 6 that will come next year, I think that'll be a good time to wrap it up, few hard sci-fi series ever got that many years and I'm glad if they go out with a bang. S01 was good and gradually built up toward a great S03, and new chapter S04 is also building toward an epic S05-S06.

As we evidently move toward extraterrestrials, it's becoming harder to balance the shows local realism and there are budget constrains too heading into alien territory (just a guess, did not even watch trailer). It's a story of humans and humanity, and as long as we get like 16 last episodes Sopranos / BoJack style, it'll finish on a high note.

Enjoy S05 in the meantime, it's dropping 3 episodes on Wednesday than weekly Expanse, I'll take the impatience over binge watching I couldn't resist namsayin. Also, now being cancelled twice, the series made a bit of a history.

Is viewership down? Seemed like Amazon really liked having the product.

No idea but The Expanse is expensive and Covid surely didn't help as it over-extended the entire industry's budget, and I guess even tho Jeff Bezos put it on board, Amazon Studio heads had a massive budget cut and it had to go based on numbers. These online studios aren't any better keeping acclaimed stuff on air than network ones, Amazon killed Transparent and Netflix killed BoJack Horseman. But if they have any decency they told Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby in time so they can prep S06 for a grand finale with extra episodes. I don't think they are ready to start shooting anyway due to Covid, so it's not ideal and we do get a S06, so I'll take it.

In fairness, I think 6 seasons is about how long you want a show to go. You can tell a perfect story in 5 acts, the extra season lets you stretch those out where you need. To your point though, that only helps if you plan it that way.

The premise in the OP interests me, it sounds right up my street. Without reading other posts in this thread (avoiding spoilers) what's the status of this show? Is it cancelled before it's finished? I've already been burned by GoT doing that (effectively)

The alien butlers did it. (spoilers)

It did 3 seasons on SyFy and got cancelled but Amazon picked it up so production wasn't delayed and it's gonna finish after 6 seasons next year or so. The novel series the show's based on has 9 books with the last coming out in 2021, so not sure how they gonna deal with that, but writers do consult with TV creators.

I think the ending of the TV show being different to the book is a positive. It means I can enjoy both and not have one ruin the ending for the other.

First three episodes live and luckily I could get a 7-day Amazon Prime Video trial so at least the first 4 episodes I can watch for free then will probably pay for a month for the rest.

Probably gonna save this until the christmas holidays so i can binge over christmas
Cool idea but only one more will come out till X-Mas, after the first 3 premier episodes Amazon is releasing'em weekly. Good idea too, having to impatiently wait a week during season 3 really kept us on our toes!
