Aberdeen drew 0-0 with Rangers at Ibrox today, which is pretty funny if you are interested in the detail of Scottish football.

Before Gerrard was hired, Rangers sought from Aberdeen and received permission to talk to their manager Derek McInnes or however you spell it. So over he goes to speak to them. As I think everyone knows, Rangers, a legitimately colossal footballing institution, is also a financial basket-case and the word was that McInnes looked "under the bonnet" and found the state of the club not to his liking. He knocked them back.

This is pretty unthinkable. Other people managing in Scotland don't knock back the Glasgow giants. It's sort of agreed that, post Fergie era when Aberdeen were legitimately huge themselves, that every manager managing in Scotland wants to get there. So it was a huge kick in the throat for a club that sort of sees themselves as the natural club of Government if you get what I mean.

From his arrival, Gerrard seemed a bit pissed at Aberdeen. He gave a really bizarre press-conference (or interview, I forget) about restoring the natural order against them and saying how they were a couple of levels above them etc., all true, but a bit odd coming from a media changed manager.

Aberdeen raise their game against Rangers anyway because of historical differences that we really don't have time or space for here but trust me: the venom between these two is absolutely real and Aberdeen live to beat Rangers.

And since those weird Gerrard remarks they've been doing some fucking job of it. I think Rangers have won something like 2/9 of their showdowns with Aberdeen. In essence, this season, they're going to be one of the determining factors in killing their title challenge, having cost them four points in two games.

It's funny to see a giant like Gerrard laid low by a guy who could have had his job who Gerrard specifically singled out for patronisation and undermining.

Liverpool are mad , they need something like 6 wins to guarantee the title and look at some of the teams who they've still got to play, Norwich, Bournemouth, Villa, West Ham, Brighton, Everton, Burnley, there's no way they ain't winning this title at an absolute canter.

He was an absolute retard to come out with that "class above" comment and it has haunted him ever since. He had only been in the door 5 minutes and was digging his grave in regards to his future in the SPL.

When you listen to his interviews he is without doubt one of the less sharper tools in the box and his contradictions hilarious.

Here's Aberdeen doing the business in Europe in the early 80s.

The Dons under Fergie were an unbelievable force considering the fund gap with the Glasgow clubs.

Gothenburg was some night and was pleased he knocked back the chance to manage Rangers.

To think how Scottish teams performed in Europe back then was terrific.Jim McLeans Dundee United were another that punched way above their weight and had some team of players then.
