Iranian general says Israel stealing Iran's clouds

The head of Iran's Civil Defense Organization claims Israel is 'working to ensure clouds entering Iranian skies are unable to release rain,' insisting this was confirmed by an Iranian scientific study; but head of Iran's meteorological service says 'it is not possible for a country to steal clouds.'
AFP|Published: 07.02.18 , 20:15

An Iranian general on Monday accused Israel of manipulating weather to prevent rain over the Islamic republic, alleging his country was facing cloud "theft," before being contradicted by the nation's weather chief.

"The changing climate in Iran is suspect," Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, head of Iran's Civil Defense Organization told a press conference, semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

"Foreign interference is suspected to have played a role in climate change," Jalali was quoted as saying, insisting results from an Iranian scientific study "confirm" the claim.

"Israel and another country in the region have joint teams which work to ensure clouds entering Iranian skies are unable to release rain," he said.

"On top of that, we are facing the issue of cloud and snow theft", Jalali added, citing a survey showing that above 2,200 metres all mountainous areas between Afghanistan and the Mediterranean are covered in snow, except Iran.

The general's allegations of weather pilfering were not the first time an Iranian official has accused the country's foes of stealing its rain.

Former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2011 accused Western countries of devising plans to "cause drought" in Iran, adding that "European countries used special equipment to force clouds to dump" their water on their continent

Christian faith-healing couple sentenced to prison for daughter’s death

The parents of a twin baby girl who died hours after being born at their home pleaded guilty this Monday to negligent homicide and and criminal mistreatment, The Oregonian reports.

Over the past 9 years in Oregon’s Clackamas County, 5 criminal cases involving the deaths of children affiliated with the Followers of Christ church have emerged, yet this is the first one to end with charged and a plea deal. The parents, 25-year-old Sarah Elaine Mitchell and 22-year-old Travis Lee Mitchell, were both sentenced to six years and eight months in prison.

In their plea deal, the Mitchells admitted that they failed to provide the necessary medical care for their daughter, who was born prematurely, and even called on fellow church members to “always seek adequate medical care for our children.”

When The Oregonian first reported the story in June of 2017, it described a scene where a baby was in distress while the parents refused to call 9-11.

According to a court affidavit, the couple said the baby became “less fussy” after being alive for about 4 hours before it suddenly stopped breathing. The mother had given birth at her parent’s house. A church elder reportedly contacted the medical examiner’s office when the child died, but no one bothered to call a doctor when the baby was under duress. A coroner’s report revealed the child died due to lung problems resulting from a premature birth.

Child deaths have plagued the church for years. The Oregonian reports that members “believe the sick will be anointed by elders and that their faith will heal all ailments. Death, if it comes, is God’s will.” Responding to the spate of deaths, the Oregon legislature disallowed religious beliefs to be a court defense for homicide charges that result from the practice.

Throughout her pregnancy, Sarah Mitchell received no prenatal care and took no supplements, even though the couple had medical insurance through Travis Mitchell’s job. The couple did however seek veterinary care — which included vaccinations, wellness checks — for their dog and cat according to prosecutors.

“We hope that this office is never again forced to prosecute parents in the Followers of Christ Church for neglecting the medical care of their children,” the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

“However, we continue to stand ready to do so if the members of that congregation do not heed the call of this family.”

American tourist takes unexploded WWII munition to Vienna Airport

The woman thought the unexploded World War II shell she found could be taken home as a souvenir. She reportedly washed it in her hotel room to not get her clothes dirty, but wasn't worried about an explosion.

A 24-year-old American tourist caused panic at Vienna Airport when she put an unexploded World War II artillery shell in front of Austrian customs officials and asked whether the "souvenir" could be taken onboard her flight home.

Officials quickly called the bomb disposal unit to remove and dispose of the 7.5 caliber dud tank artillery shell. The incident shut down the arrival and luggage hall for 15 minutes.

Police said at no time were passengers under threat.

The 24-year-old was reported to prosecutors for negligent endangerment and fined €4,000 ($4,694).

The woman had found the World War II relic while hiking.

According to the Kronenzeitung newspaper, the woman reportedly cleaned the artillery shell in her hotel room so as not to get her clothes dirty when she packed it up to take to the airport.

Lets see what CONSERVAPEDIA has to say about Einsteins E=mc²,shall we?

E=mc² asserts that the energy (E) in an unmoving particle is equal to the square of the speed of light () times the mass (m) of that particle.[1] The complete form, when applied to moving objects, is E²=(mc²)²+(pc)², where p represents momentum,[2] It is a statement that purports to relate all matter to energy. In fact, no theory has successfully unified the laws governing mass (i.e., gravity) with the laws governing light (i.e., electromagnetism), and numerous attempts to derive E=mc² from first principles have failed.[3] Political pressure, however, has since made it impossible for anyone pursuing an academic career in science to even question the validity of this nonsensical equation. Simply put, E=mc² is liberal claptrap.

The formula asserts that the mass of an object, at constant energy, magically varies precisely in inverse proportion to the square of a change in the speed of light over time,[4] which violates conservation of mass and disagrees with commonsense.[5]

Physicists have never been able to unify light with matter[6]despite more than a billion-dollars-worth of attempts, and it is likely impossible to ever do so.[7] Biblical Scientific Foreknowledge predicts that there is no unified theory of light and matter because they were created at different times, in different ways, as described in the Book of Genesis.

Mass is a measure of an object's inertia, in other words its resistance to acceleration. In contrast, the intrinsic energy of an object (such as an atom) is a function of electrostatic charge and other non-inertial forces, having nothing to do with gravity. Declaring the object's energy to be a function of inertia rather than electrostatics is an absurd and impossible attempt to unify the forces of nature, contrary to the accepted view (as predicted by Biblical Scientific Foreknowledge) that the forces of nature have not been unified. Liberal scientists assert the formula E=mc² is not limited to nuclear reactions; it applies to chemical reactions and even to the energy stored in a compressed spring.[8]

The claim that E=mc² has never yielded anything of value and it has often been used as a redefinition of "energy" for pseudo-scientific purposes by non-scientific journals. Claims can be found not only on liberal, second-tier college websites but at those of Baylor and the MIT that the equation is used in nuclear power generation and nuclear weapons (nuclear fusion and nuclear fission) and about antimatter.[9][10][11]

Jenny McCarthy doesn't know what her Google Home sounds like, assumes it's a ghost

Actress Jenny McCarthy had a bit of a supernatural encounter this week, sort of. After checking herself out in the mirror in a room she believed to be otherwise unoccupied, she heard a little ditty play. Noting there was nobody sitting at the nearby piano, the renowned science skeptic proceeded to freak out, calling for her husband to let him know what was going on. Thankfully, she had a Nest Cam set up in the room, from which she promptly pulled the footage to post online as proof that her house is "HAUNTED!"

The majority of Facebook commenters seem to agree with Jenny's assessment that the spirit of a dead person was possessing her piano, with at least one claiming to have actually seen a ghost in the video. Another suggests hiring a medium. Here's the clip, but be advised — it's super spooky.

Of course, Jenny McCarthy's house is not haunted. Astute viewers recognized the otherworldly tonesas the jingle Google Home plays when it starts up. Apparently Jenny's rebooted itself, and, never having witnessed such an event before, her immediate reaction was to assume it was ghosts. Naturally.

Who ya gonna call?

WOMAN DIES AFTER ALTERNATIVE ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY THAT USES LIVE BEE STINGS INSTEAD OF NEEDLES

55-year-old Spanish woman has died after undergoing an alternative acupuncture procedure in which live bee stings are used instead of needles.

The cause of death was a severe allergic reaction to the bee venom, Science Alert reported.

The unusual case is described in a recent study published in the Journal of Investigational Allergology and Clinical Immunology (JIACI) by Paula Vázquez-Revuelta and Ricardo Madrigal-Burgaleta from the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital in Spain.

Apitherapy is a branch of alternative medicine that revolves around the use of various bee-related products, such as honey and pollen. However, some of the more extreme procedures—like bee acupuncture—involve the use of bee venom. During these therapy sessions, a practitioner uses live bees, pinching them until the sting emerges so that it can be inserted into the body. As with a normal sting, the bee dies shortly after.

The popularity of this form of apitherapy is growing rapidly, especially in East Asia where it has long been used in traditional medicine. Proponents claim that it is effective at treating a variety of diseases—particularly arthritis and rheumatism—and alleviating pain.

While one of the active components in bee venom—melittin—has anti-inflammatory properties, the claims made by apitherapists are largely unsupported by the scientific evidence. Furthermore, adverse reactions to the venom are frequent.

For example, one systematic review of 145 studies examining the effects of bee venom treatments, published in the journal PLOS One, noted that potential adverse reactions range from “ trivial skin reactions that usually resolve over several days to life-threating severe immunological responses such as anaphylaxis.”

The scientists found that “compared with normal saline injection, bee venom acupuncture showed a 261% increased relative risk for the occurrence of adverse events.”

The woman featured in the latest case study decided to receive apitherapy to improve muscular stress. “She had no clinical record of any other diseases, other risk factors, [or] previous reactions of any kind,” the authors wrote.

"During an apitherapy session, she developed wheezing, dyspnea [difficulty breathing], and sudden loss of consciousness immediately after a live bee sting," they added.

The patient eventually died in hospital several weeks later from multiple organ failures, despite the attempts of doctors to keep her alive.

Strangely, the woman had already been attending live bee acupuncture sessions about once a month for two years.

According to the JIACI paper's authors, repeated exposure to allergens such as bee venom can lead to a greater risk of suffering a severe allergic reaction. This explains why she was unharmed by the previous therapy sessions.

“The risks of undergoing apitherapy may exceed the presumed benefits, leading us to conclude that this practice is both unsafe and unadvisable,” Vázquez-Revuelta and Madrigal-Burgaleta wrote in their study.

Anti-vaxxer parents force Arizona to shut down a much-needed vaccine education program

ARIZONA — In a testament to how motivated and obstructive a vocal minority of people who promote pseudoscience can be, a state program to educate families on the value of vaccines has been shut down due to backlash from anti-vaccine parents and activists, AZCentral reports.

Arizona launched the program to combat the growing number of children showing up to schools without the proper vaccinations against measles, whooping cough, and mumps. Fearing (unfoundedly) that the course would be mandatory, 120 individuals, including around 20 parents who openly say they refuse to allow their children to be vaccinated, filed a complaint to the Arizona Regulatory Review Council.

When the backlash prompted the council the take the parents’ complaints to the state’s health department, the state responded by shutting the program down. In a note to a school official announcing the program’s cancellation, immunization services manager at the Arizona DHS (Department of Health Services) Brenda Jones said the “strong forces against us” causes the state to cave.

“I’m not sure why providing ‘information’ is seen as a negative thing,” Rep. Heather Carter (R-Cave Creek), who helped create the program, told AZCentral.com. “Providing information doesn’t take away a parent’s choice to seek an exemption. … This is a major concern. Vaccines have saved lives for generations. We all want to live in safe and healthy communities.”

From AZCentral:

Carter hosted meetings attended by physicians, nurses, school administrators, school nurses, naturopaths and public health officials that led to the creation of the 60- to 90-minute evidence-based vaccine education program.

State health officials said they have returned to the drawing board regarding the regulatory duty to provide vaccine education to Arizona parents seeking vaccine exemptions.
The overriding message they want parents to understand: Childhood vaccines are far safer than the diseases they prevent.

In August, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that a measles outbreak had spread across 21 states and the District of Columbia. Most of the people who contracted the disease were not vaccinated. According to the CDC, 107 people had contracted the disease from Jan. 1 to July 14.

In 2014, the U.S. saw 667 cases from 27 states. One outbreak the same year involved 383 cases in unvaccinated Amish communities in Ohio.

Christian fundamentalist parents found guilty in the death of their malnourished 14-month-old son

A Calgary jury who heard details surrounding the death of a malnourished 14-month-old child have convicted the parents of criminal negligence and failure to provide the necessaries of life.

The child, named John, died in 2013 one day after his parents Jennifer and Jeromie Clark brought him to the hospital where he suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest.

Pictures shown to the jury during the trial revealed the child’s blackened toes and a red rash that covered a large portion of his body — signs that those who testified said were indicative of the final stages of a “treatable staph infection.”

Crown prosecutor Shane Parker said that the Clarks initially believed the child’s rash was due to eczema, but in reality it was a “skin reaction to malnutrition.”

“It’s the Crown’s theory that these defendants did not feed John properly,” Parker said, adding that his parents “owed him that small, but incredibly important duty.”

During the trial, evidence was presented that showed the Clarks researched “natural remedies” online. But the remedies failed, and when John was finally brought to the Foothills Medical Centre on Nov. 28, 2013, he was already in the final stages of dying.

According to a forensic pathologist’s report, John was malnourished and died from a staph infection less than 24 hours after he was admitted to the hospital.

The Clarks had a notable supporter throughout their trial. David Stephen, who is due to be retried with his wife Collet for the death of their son in 2012 under similar circumstances, sat in the gallery throughout the trial taking notes. He also posted multiple Facebook videos from outside the courthouse, lamenting what he saw as the couple’s persecution.

The Stephans were found guilty in 2016 of allowing their 19-month-old son to die from bacterial meningitis. They were charged in 2015 after their son Ezekiel passed away in March 2012 from a deadly infection which they attempted to treat using “natural remedies” that included hot peppers, garlic, onions, horseradish, and a product from a naturopathic “doctor” who claimed the remedies would boost Ezekiel’s immune system.
The Stephans’ conviction was overturned on a technicality.

Despite the strong evidence against them, the Clarks attempted to pin the blame for their child’s death on the doctors who treated him, claiming they raised the boy’s sodium and fluid levels too aggressively.

“[The doctors are] the heroes in this file and to portray them as the villains really was quite unfair for their efforts to try and save that 14-month-old baby,” Crown prosecutor Parker said.

The Clarks were apparently devoted adherents of the Seventh-Day Adventist faith. During Jennifer Clark’s first court appearance in March, she was asked to remove her 1920s flapper-style religious head covering, but she refused.

According to investigators, the Clarks followed a strict vegan diet based on an extreme interpretation of their religion.
