And we all knew England were ultra defensive, but 1 shot on target over 118 minutes after the first goal was scored is abysmal. Southgate now has a year to work on mixing his ultra negative style with some attacking flair, if he even wants to.

He's starting tactic was fine, problem was he didn't change tactics when Italy did

Also Grealish did nothing when he came on and hid behind a 19 year old on the pens

He's a very good player, but ffs he's not Zidane

Rashford and Sancho should have had at least 10 minutes game time to warm up

A fucking dreadful way to decide a tournament.

They should just continue playing extra periods until one team wins.
I don’t know if Euros like it the way it is or not. One suggestion would be instead of penalty kicks maybe do corner kicks until one team scores.
I am not much of a soccer fan but I do like the big events like today, World Cup, and the olympics but it seems like it always comes down to penalty kicks.

He decided the order and, from what I've gathered, Grealish was not happy at Cuntgate dumping him well down the list.
He's obviously going to front up for his player, that's what leaders do, they rather fail before others, there's a reason a cb who's not a penalty taker took the second one. The manager gives it to the players that volunteer, if Grealish wanted it, he would have said no I'm a club captain and a boy isn't taking front of me, and that would be that, he clearly did not. In fact it was on camera southgate asking Grealish if he will take one (to Which he replied yh) you only ask the sudden death penalty takers because they haven't volunteered

Grealish top player, but he let the team down, he was fresh and warmed up, letting a boy take that penalty.

Raheem sterling should have taken one ahead of him too, although I understand he may have been knackered at that point, he should have still stepped up ahead of saka.

It was a failure of leadership, even the bum Henderson would have 100% taken it, even though he probably certain to miss.

Southgate messed up by not giving rashford and Sancho minutes before penalty, that was fucking joke, giving those lads a penalty in a final on cold legs, but Saka, that's clearly fault of the Senior players in the squad

We were dominated from about 15 minutes in Italy adapted during the game TBH they should have won the game before 90 minutes.

Southgate is such a poor coach his man management skills are fantastic but his coaching ability is limited he proved this last night. Mancini adjusted on the fly made better substitutes while Southgate just let the game go by.

Southgate had good options on the bench but he is so handbrake on no adventure or ambition to attack when it's needed.

Gutted we lost but surprised as soon as the pressure is on Southgate wilted.

Not surprised. Mancini is a world class coach, Southgate would be managing a league 1 side if he wasn't chosen to be England coach. Also, it helps that Italy have two of the best centre backs in the world right now. In a year's time there needs to be improvement from the team, especially given that the young players will be more experienced.

I don't think southgate wilted under pressure at all

He's limited as a manager, everyone knew this and the difference in quality between managers showed, despite having a better attack southgate came up short

I thought stones and maguire especially were outstanding and on this form with a reliable centre back next to him, I wouldn't pick either of the Italians over Maguire - he was the clear leader and captain amongst the group

Chiesa was subbed off with 30+ minutes remaining and we still couldn't capitalise on them losing arguably their best attacking player. Jorginho, I would argue, should have been sent off though. Dangerous tackle and I've seen red given for less.

I would be thinking of retiring from international football if I were in Grealish's position. It was a piss take for Southgate to use him for full games right before the tournament, and then dump him as soon as is started. And then to bring him on with so little time left after being battered for nearly 2 hours in a final.

No wonder Vardy retired. It's just not worth giving a month of your life up to be treated like the manager only values you when he has literally no other options left.

Played passive/scared once we went 1-0 up , something that needs to be fixed because it always happens, we only start being urgent or go for it if we are behind or trying to protect something.

Guardian making a big deal of the online racism directed towards Rashford, Sancho and Saka, which is very effective in deflecting deserved criticism from Rashford, and Sancho to a lesser extent.

Lots of comments criticising Grealish for not taking one, when its clear that only one penalty spot was available, and Sterling, Shaw, Phillips and Henderson didn't step up either, and they all had far more tournament and game time then Grealish did.

Edit:. I checked out the Guardians sources, and according to Hope Not Hate, we're talking about 120 racist tweets, compared to 44 across all group games, not even 0.001% of the population. These dickheads have been kneeling for barely a hundred spastics on the internet lol.
