It's a tough one because he's one of my favourite fighters too but at the same time I struggle to sympathise with things like this, he's putting other peoples lives at risk. I he isn't in too bad a way but that looks insane
I'm a fan - though I did want Shawn Porter to leather him.

This is basically madness. Give a bloke who's prepared to die for his sport (and I don't just mean Errol Spence) a few million dollars/pounds and they'll just fuck things up.

I sincerely hope Spence is okay. I'm not that bothered for Twitter other than for boxing news and news generally, but the boxing fraternity have come out in support big-time for him on there today.

I'm not sure if he'll box again (I'm not a doctor), I hope he does. Let's keep our fingers crossed he does.

Interesting interview with Richard Farnan in this week's Boxing News. He was an eye witness to the James Ali Bashir assault at the Shields - Habazin weigh-in.

Farnan was there as a member of Hannah Rankin's team. Claims Shields' family, and particularly her sister, have been aggressive and nasty at any event he has been a part of.

The sister was racially abusive to Rankin and her team at her fight with Shields, and also nearly came to blows with a member of the team.

As reported/recorded, Bashir and the sister had an argument after Bashir tried to view Shields' weight. (As was his right). Bashir said some regrettable things, but the sister was led away and it all calmed down.

Later a short stocky man, (apparently Shields brother), sucker punched Bashir, breaking his jaw, knocking out a lot of teeth, and seriously injuring the elderly trainer. The man ran off but was later arrested.

Farnan said this was the first time he has ever felt unsafe at a boxing event. A police officer said this was why they don't hold events in Flint, because things like this happen.

I have never been to Flint, but I know it is really economically depressed. I did some work in nearby Detroit years ago. It was also really struggling at the time.

The majority of people I met there were among the nicest I have met anywhere in the world. They were friendly, accommodating and really happy we were there.

However, there was a lot of poverty, and with that, a lot of angry, ignorant, dangerous people. From my experience, I can understand why Farnan maybe felt unsafe.

Carl Froch has a podcast now - Froch on Fighting.

Haven't listened yet. Will be disappointed if it's just boxing chat. Hoping for crazy conspiracy theories, backhanded compliments, and regular updates on how great Carl's life is.

He could be the new Alan Partridge.

I'd be very surprised if the 80,000 at Wembley doesn't get mentioned at least a dozen times.

As has been proven, Carl was an ace boxer but his knowledge of the sport (Sky punditry) is absolutely laughable.

I'll stick to Nuthouse Podcast instead of Carl's shit.

Great fighter and a genuine hard man, but also an egotist and an oddball.

He is a crap commentator, but I am hoping for some comedy gold from this.

Carl is doing this with some guy called Darren Fletcher, (not the Man u player, a sports commentator), who has banned any flat earth or Wembley chat.

Only 30 seconds in though and Carl is already delivering in spades. On Nigel Benn needing closure:

"Well he lost his last 3 fights. I wouldn't know anything about that. I won my last fight and retired. They say if you retire a champion you live the rest of your life as a champion".

I love Carl.

I'm not going to listen because if his Sky stuff is anything to go by then this podcast will be complete fucking wank.

If you do get any great lines from him, Bob, post them on here and we'll all have a massive laugh.

I'm guessing the Groves 80,000 line will take about a minute or three to come out. Carl needs to get over that. Julio Cesar Chavez fought in front of 132,000 people when he leathered Greg Haugen in Mexico. Yeah, I suppose 80,000 is good, but no real reason to keep banging on about it.

JCSuperstar never told everyone in the world about his appearance in Azteca Stadium and how many people it attracted.

Ha. Wembley has come up a fair few times already. He has also said he has no animosity to Ward, and in the same breath called him a cheat who couldn't fill a phonebox.

Tbf, he does say some nice stuff about Groves, and offers some good insight into his own career, the life of a boxer, and the difficulties of making weight as you age.

Off the top of my head a couple of highlights of the first episode are:

1. Froch used to prowl about his Rotherham training base hotel at night to snaffle biscuits from the store cupboard.

2. When Groves was ringside at the Bute fight he ate all of the media sandwiches, leaving none for the other reporters working.

Yep there's some right bollocks in there about George at the Bute fight.

The Rotherham hotel training base? I'm assuming he was at Wincobank with Brendan Ingle while he was based in Rotherham, which he wasn't. Otherwise he was just being a weirdo in Rotherham.

I can't remember the hotel name. But it was in Rotherham and while he was in camp.

Would he stay there when training at the Team GB facilities in Sheffield maybe?

He also said he was offered tens of millions to make a comeback on DAZN, but he didn't fancy the training at his age, and McCracken advised against it.

Right. I got you now Bob. The Team GB facilities are at the EIS in Sheffield. I used to teach just around the corner from there, I live twenty minutes drive from there. It makes sense. Carl gets a pass for that one.

EIS is absolutely ace. I worked at a special school teaching little 'uns and we'd take them there. The facilities are amazing, they must have chucked so much money at that. There's also a really good boozer in walking distance (Arena Square) from there and also a smashing sandwich shop in walking distance too.

If that somehow downloads onto my phone I'll be trading it in for Nokia 3210.

No probs. I wasn't very clear.

Trying to work out, listen to the podcast, and post on here was a bit ambitious for someone with my manual and mental dexterity.

No worries. I hear you loud and clear Bob.

Any more daft lines from the Froch podcast will be willingly accepted by the way. We all need a laugh now and again.
