I'll start with recommending Swedish/Danish Bron/Broen or The Bridge, a psychological thriller with a male (Kim Bodnia, Pusher) and female detective (Sofia Helin) going after a serial killer that leaves a chopped up body right in the middle of a bridge that connects the two countries. The writing and the cast performs equally strong to deliver intense gritty episodes and a memorable ending, but Helin manages to rise above all with her portrayal of a character suffering from Aspergers. RECOMMENDED!

The first episode with english subs, rest at the end of the video

The Borgias is brilliant, keep watching it. The first episode is fantastic, but it gets better as it gets into the later seasons. I'm on Episode 3 of season 3 at the minute and things are starting to get really really interesting. Lots of plotting which I love.

I can also recommend The Tudors, which although isn't as good as The Borgias and not close to as good as Rome is still very good.

Good thread Bone, I'm gonna love this one.

Romanzo Criminale.

For me the GOAT of all Crime drama's, if you like the genre and in particular the likes of The Wire, The Sopranos, Breaking bad & The Shield you'll love this. The true story of Della banda Magliana (The Magliana gang) a small time crew that rose up the ranks and took over the criminal underworld of Rome during the 70's/80's and the cops that tried to stop them.

Underbelly.

Incredible Australian crime drama series. Each season focuses on a particular place and era, going from the 20's up to modern day and details the lifes of Austrailias most notorious criminals and gangs, how the rose up and how the fell.

Great fucking thread. Barely watching movies any more, but tons of TV series.

Recently finished Epitafios, an Argentine serial killer show. Was highly recommended, but disappointed big time.
My favourite shows are The Wire, The Sopranos, Trailer Park Boys, Damages, 24, The Shield, Twin Peaks, Romanzo Criminale, Forbrydelsen, In Treatment, Hatufim, The West Wing, Six Feet Under and some more that are probably slipping my mind right now.

Right now I'm watching Battlestar Galactica, which is decent enough, although not as good as many people would have you believe.
Actually planned to watch Bron/Broen after that. There's not much left I haven't seen, though...

Edit:
Fuck it, might as well mention some more...
Not top of the list, but still very good:
Game of Thrones, Southland, Homeland, Dexter, Riget, Homicide, Sons of Anarchy, South Park, Family Guy, Ideal, House of Cards (both the original and remake), Phone Shop, Breaking Bad, Nathan Barley, Deadwood, Oz, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, The Twilight Zone...

On top of my to watch list remain Boardwalk Empire (of which I've only seen Season 1) and Mad Men.

Many excellent shows you mentioned there particularly Breaking bad, Boardwalk empire, Southland & Homeland. I watched the first season of Hatufim, it was great but i can't find season 2. What are Broen & Forbrydelsen about ? I'm looking for a new show to get into.

Oh and you should definitely check out Underbelly if you haven't already, its incredible underrated.

Well, haven't watched Broen yet, and I generally try to avoid even the mildest spoilers of shows I plan to watch, so I couldn't really tell you.
Forbrydelsen is the Danish (?) original of "The Killing". Each season is about a murder that connects to politics. Brilliant show.

Hatufims season 2 is a lot more fast-paced than season 1, but still very very good. It also varies a lot more from Homeland in that 2nd season, and I still rate Hatufim clearly higher than Homeland, which is a good show, though...

I've got a list of all TV shows I've seen with ratings on my other computer. It's about 200 titles long... as soon as I get to it, I might reccomend some lesser known shows I can't think of right now.
I watch way too many TV shows...

Edit:
Just though of The Black Donnellys, which was pretty good, but is kind of unknown... and another one I forgot the title to right now... going to look for it on IMDB...
"Brotherhood" was what I was thinking of.

That sounds good, never seen the Killing so i think I'll watch Forbrydelsen now. The Black Donnellys & Brotherhood are two good Irish American shows, shame they both got canceled before the conclussions.

Yeah please do mate, whenever you get a chance. I love watching good shows that fly under the radar.

Oh, and for any Sopranos fans:
I recently watched Lilyhammer with Steven van Zandt. It's basically Silvio Dante going into witness protection and moving to a remote region in Norway. A fish out of water scenario that gets its humour from van Zandt. Nothing ground-breaking, but decent enough to watch the one season they've released so far.

Nice to see Underbelly getting mentioned, the first season was very very good with some great characters there, i think the guys who played Gangitano and Benji did an awesome job.

Another great TV show that rarely gets mentioned is Homicide Life On The Streets it was created by the same people that created The Wire and also takes place in Baltimore, the drama, the stories and the acting were top notch and are up there with The Wire and The Shield as the best TV shows i have ever seen, theres also lots of great cameos from actors that went on to do great things in movies.

HOmicide is a classic, it gets overlooked because it came on network tv and was censored compared to the shit on cable and premium stations.
