For All Mankind (2019 Apple series)

Grounded science based space exploration series co-written by Naren Shankar (The Expanse, Star Trek Next Generation)? Hell yeah, get in here @Joe - produced by Apple and set in an alternate 60s/70s where USSR beats USA to the moon? Uh-oh!

If you expect Apple retroactively smuggle popular agendas in like women, ppl. of color, homosexuals and pot smokers trying to get along in a white macho Christian male environment where the latter type of course end up backstabbing, making bad decisions, go bonkers or just turn out assholes, whereas women of liberal views, same sex attraction and / or of African-American heritage save the day tho the environment still doesn't fully allow them to shine, yup, ALL OF THIS appears like clockwork. There's even an illegal Mexican immigrant family plot line here, and having finished the full season I can't for the love of Tim Cook figure out why.

This is the same Apple that propagates a free speech, free thought, free choices and as a turncoat outs Hong Kong freedom protesters location and personal data to the Chinese government that puts millions of Uyhgurs into concentration camps, fucks up virus outbreaks and jails whoever speaking up. Same Apple that relocates story to the Cold War to avoid China being the "opposing space force" in modern Moon rush (which is heating up in real life), as China offers cheap labor and billions of cash in Apple revenue.

Yet there's so much scientific accuracy and current / past tech space stuff that as a space nerd I said fuck it: whatever the series needs to say about tolerance and ppl. of different tastes, let it slide (it's neither good or bad, it's just boring in 2020), cool - so long mission control drama, Moon base activities, orbital maneuvers and things like that are done right. And they are.

P. S. Frank Sobotka went to the gym. Looks very odd.

Narcos mexico is back with their dodgy bokeh blur lens that has a really distractingly shallow depth of field. :conf

Couldn't find anything to watch on Netflix so found myself watching the second series of Sex Education.

Apart from it being incredibly gay, this has to be the most woke thing I have ever seen.

There was white boy on white girl
White girl on white girl
White boy on Asian girl
White man on Asian woman
White woman on Black woman
White boy on white boy
Black boy on black girl
Black boy on white girl
Black girl on white girl
Black boy on black boy
Black boy on white boy
Arab boy on Indian Girl

Just when I thought they had covered every base possible, the main character's love interest fucked him off for a cunt in a wheelchair.

.......sorry for any spoilers.

Anyone aware of and can recommend / dismiss The Staircase (2004)?

And Russian Doll?

The Staircase is good yeah.

Great insight into how a defence team builds a case. The film crew have complete access to the family/team which is really interesting.

Ye I need to start that, two episodes into Russian Doll the the main lead is unbearable, plus the plot is far less interesting that it originally seems.

We just watched the first two series of Dark on Netflix. Most confusing time travel thing I have seen (and I have seen a few) but really great. It's German but with Netflix you can toggle subtitles into any language you like, seemingly, or even dub the whole thing.

Living With Yourself (2019)

Just a light hearted filler right when the world as we know it goes down (a plot summary once you turn off your telly), but it's fun. Paul Rudd is living in an unhappy marriage, depressed, miserable, basically feeling like your typical Paul Rudd character, and decides to visit a special spa after which he feels rejuvenated, happy, care-free and full of energy. Too bad a cpl. of hours later his old miserable self shows up at his doorstep... Dramedy centered around 21st century relationships and whatnot, it takes it easy and small scale, I like it even if it's forgettable, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Westworld is back, and considering how good the first season was (mostly because of Anthony Hopkins making you forget to ask plot hole questions and stuff), I'm obviously sticking to it. But it's already stinking: season 2 was quite silly in most parts and I guess it's good we start S03 off-park, and I'm going to suspend my disbelief at silly stuff cause this could be thrilling for what it is. Some comments tho:

How the fuck would you expect us to believe, that the original host Dolores, who made the park world famous and probably appeared on thousands of ads, online pages and had relations with thousands of guests over the decade... can just walk about in the real world full of cameras and ppl. normally and no one recognizes the farmer's daughter? Lol. Same for 'nard... after Arnold Weber dies, Ford makes a robo version with the anagram of Bernard Lowe, and no one notices some of the most genius figures on earth... who just died... re-appearing under a different name... who doesn't age... and now walks among normal ppl.

Like I said, sit back and enjoy without too much thinking I guess.

Could barely hear the utterances from the characters mouth pieces with that soundtrack.

We're looking at this shows last season I imagine. The ratings came in and it doesn't look good. With the opener being only average , its unlikely to attract a bigger audience and the trajectory for viewership tends to do down rather than up. Not good for a show with such a high production cost.

I'll stick with it and hope it gets better , but feel season 2 done irreparable damage to the show and essentially killed it dead.
