Well, what a few months it's been!
Due to an absurd work schedule and various health problems, I went on my usual Eurotrip heavier than usual, and subsequently came back fatter and more generally rotund than I'd been since about 2014! :wah:sad I weighed a whopping 117.9kgs on my first weigh in back, and have since fluctuated as low as 111, but have pretty much done nothing but tread water in the four months I've been back.
My work schedule hasn't helped; over four months I've literally had ten days off work between my two jobs until the 23rd of December, these two days off are the first since getting back.
My job is physical as well, with plenty of 12-15 hour days thrown in, especially over December. Not a day went by that some bloody smart arse would tell me I "didn't have to go to the gym" with my job... :patsch As if they couldn't see the difference between a healthy, balanced life and having a job that just left you plain exhausted all the time.
Anyway, after a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas and boxing day filled with very silly eating and some sorely needed sleep, I'm ready to get back into it.
I'm afraid of the scales after the bad eating, so I reckon I'll get a weigh in once I've put a couple of workouts in the bank.
In terms of eating, today was bog standard Christmas gluttony, finished off with heaps of sweets and desserts after dinner.
I got into the gym today for a short orientation on the treadmill, and the knee felt alright (took it real easy though, 8.5km/h), but I soon realised I didn't have a ventolin, and found myself half doubled over and wheezing well after I left the gym.
Well, at least I showed up. Best effort since November!

How tall are you again? That's what I weighed a few weeks ago but dropped 10kg since whilst drinking daily. No real cardio other than a punch bag and arguably kettlebell swings.

I shouldn't really weight any more than about 90kgs. I am fairly overweight at the moment, but then, it's been a lifelong battle, and I've had more success than most in recent years.
That's good weight loss, man! Punch bag is bloody great, I wish my current gym had one!

First day back at work and was still full from all the stupid eating for the first half of the day. I had a protein shake for breakfast followed by a supermarket chicken caesar salad for lunch. All the ingredients came packaged separately so it was easy to discard the croutons! I also had some braised beef.
After work I went to the Thai takeaway for a beef salad and some satay skewers. So all in all an awesome day of eating to start me off!
And so D-Day arrived. I went into the gym with about 27 minutes to spare and I was determined to make it through at least a halfway decent cardio workout.
All I can say it, I'm back to square one.
I slowed the treadmill to a pace at which you could still barely power walk and trotted along. I took more active rest breaks than usual, but I made it through the 27 minutes before closing time, being mindful of my busted knee.
Not bad for a first effort back, but look forward to kicking it up a gear in the new year!

27 minutes on a treadmill would be hell on my calfs and knees. I'd do rowing, swimming or some lower impact stuff.

The punch bag is at home. I dont like gyms as im impatient and always the free weights are taken and people sit on machines looking at their phones and it drives me mad.

I do 1 min of a combo - 30 seconds either head movement or bodyshots then repeat that for 10 minutes then do 10 kettlebell swings a minute for 10 minutes.
Then its all just weights really. Whole thing takes 45 minutes ish. No knee impacts though because i still think i'm too heavy to run on the road. When i'm at 100kg i will start that.

As a cheap alternative to a punch bag, i saw USYK with this tennis ball thing and immediately got one on ebay. Its a great little workout and way harder than he makes it look.

Have you tried muslefood? they sell some clean eating packs that will do you a month and probably better for you than supermarket salad - i hear some of them can be higher calorie than you may expect.

I might just buy one of those tennis ball things! Kostya Tszyu used one back in the day! One of the most deadly-accurate punchers ever.
The treadmill was always my touchstone for health for the last two or three years. No matter how shit my lifestyle was, I could bang out half an hour on the treadmill a few times a week and it would not just keep my cardio in check, it would keep me diet-motivated.
The silly thing about me and my supermarket salads is that I could order a delicious, healthy salad for free at work (smoked salmon, mixed leaf, poached egg), but my bloody lunch break falls in between lunch and dinner service, so the chefs are on break.
I always read the nutrition info on the salads I buy, and find the carb content, etc. The caesar I had was 18g of fat, which really isn't so bad.

28/12/2018

Started out with a protein shake and held out until lunch time, when I had some takoyaki, karaage and salad. A little fatty, but got my fill of leafy greens.
Any plans to get into the gym were quickly shattered by the night manager calling in sick, and ended up pulling an idiotic 14 hour day. And as is the trend when I'm burnt out and tired, I slipped up with my intake of calories. I was dehydrated and worn down from the summer heat and rather than some rather sensible low carb lager (pure blonde, EXTREMELY low carb) I started nailing down sweet, refreshing apple ciders.
Refreshing but high in sugar. :sad Such fuckery only happens when I push myself at work.

Dragged my sorry corpse into work for what is normally quite an easy Saturday shift. I had some fried fish for lunch without any fries, and had a gin and tonic at lunchtime with regular tonic (we don't have slimline). I probably wouldn't have made it into the gym after back to back shifts off very little sleep, but all possibility was removed at 6pm when I contacted the night manager and found out he still wasn't feeling well (he was meant to start at 5). Ended up pulling a 16 hour day to follow up, when I was tired already. I held strong until about 11pm, and got very stupid, eating whatever bad food was within arm's reach. Had more ciders after work and stopped at 7-11 on the way home for even more bad food. Yet another decent effort thwarted by absurd working hours.

I felt about 102 years old today. I woke up feeling like I'd been spat out of a wood chipper, and after some procrastination, went for sushi and takoyaki, followed by fruit yoghurt.
Watched some of the summer tennis and before I knew it, I was fast asleep again, waking up at 7:30 pm. I decided to have a day of rest before going back to work tomorrow, and had a pretty silly dinner. Indian curry with cheese naan. Silly Sunday has been a thing in my diets in the past, but normally I'd have earned it with good eating and exercise.
Onward upward.

Well, New Year's Eve and probably not a night to be too hard on myself about diet, drinking etc.
Initially I had no plans, but eventually decided to head off to a metal/Industrial party at a city nightclub. Eating was fairly good until I was drunk... a banh mi for breakfast and some teriyaki chicken for dinner, and plenty of physical work. Drank like there was no tomorrow until about 2am then picked up some burgers and fries on the way home, to end a very bad year of health etc on a high note.

...And picked up right where I left off. I ate a chicken burger without the fries for lunch (after sleeping in pretty late) then after work, ordered Indian curry from uber eats. It was exactly the kind of stupid hangover fuckery I strive to avoid on the first day of the year!

2/1/2019
I went into work feeling much better after a decent night's sleep and ate fairly well throughout the day, starting with a protein shake, then having some Takoyaki and salad at about 4pm. Unfortunately I couldn't get any exercise as I ended up being asked to stay until 9pm as someone had fallen sick. Went out on a bit of a shopping excursion after work, bought some dinner but unfortunately I made some carb-heavy choices, buying two trays of nigiri and some sushi rolls.

Another day of work, another good start to the diet. Once again I began with a protein shake before having a salad and some teriyaki chicken for lunch. SUPER healthy if I didn't screw it up at night.
Unfortunately, this has been the trend, and tonight was no different. My chef at work was delivered a bunch of excess stock, and he ended up giving a bunch of it away to staff, which included a big bag of spinach and ricotta ravioli (fresh)... :patsch:lol: You couln't fucking make this shit up. If this was a test from the universe to test my will, I failed SPECTACULARLY.
I did however make it into the gym, and completed my first 30 minute treadmill workout in about a year. Knee felt fine, and I did 4 active rest periods.
It's a game of inches at the moment, and today was a slight improvement.

Started off with a protein shake before a decent day of eating at work... had a quinoa salad and some takoyaki at lunch, then on the way home from work at 5pm, had some teriyaki fish and chilli chicken... I did weaken a little and eat the rice though... I screwed up at the supermarket on the way home though, nabbing a little twin pack of price-reduced fruit mince pies which I ate with custard... heavily discounted Christmas stock.
Got back into the gym tonight though, and for the second day in a row I did a full 30 minutes on the treadmill, and I feel great for it. I did only three active rest periods too! :good Best cardio workout I've done in ages, and second day in a row too!
Tomorrow morning I'm in at work super early, and it's a tradition that I get a McDonald's breakfast when I do that... I might ditch it or I might go through with it, I'll see how I feel.

Yeah so I got the McDonald's breakfast. Writing was on the wall there. It ended up being a fairly long day at work, 6:30am to 6pm, but nothing I'm not used to. Unfortunately I had the usual "silly saturday" mindset and had a few pieces of chocolate and other unhealthy bits and pieces that were floating around. My eating is still pretty bad to be honest, and I feel like it all comes back to breaking my usual rule of avoiding NYE. I've been useless since the start of Jan, spare the workouts. Had Indian for dinner as well. Fuckin' fail.

First day spent out at the tennis today, and started out fantastically, with sashimi for breakfast followed by grilled chicken! Watched the end of the Aussie lad's match then bailed back home and, in a shocking twist, ruined my diet. The lie I told myself today is that it was a Sunday and that prime time for starting a new diet would be a Monday, and I ate a burger and fries. These feeble excuses are something I'm going to have to get on top of if I want to get anywhere with this thing.

Another day at the tennis and once again I started great, with a protein shake a serve of grilled chicken on the way to the tournament complex... trouble is, play was delayed due to rain and I ended up being there five hours later than originally planned. All things considered though, I still did fairly well. I ate some spicy wings at the tennis and weakened a little and ate some of the fries that came with it, before binning the rest. On the way home I was starving after so long out, and bought some Indian curry on the way home, ate the beef but left the rice. Better.

One day at work amid my tennis week, and the same usual work bullshit: snacking on peanuts, an extremely late lunch break, then off to the night session, after which I ROYALLY fucked up my diet. I'm here to face the music (so to speak) and admit my sins out loud! My eating has been slightly better but this kind of fuckery can not continue. I had some takoyaki and salad for late lunch but after the tennis I had cheesy fries and a doner kebab. SHIT effort. time to go to bed, and start again tomorrow.

Another long day out at the tennis, and really no surprises in terms of diet: the lack of healthy food on offer is a problem for any dieter, I overheard as much from a fellow tennis fan as they waited for their food order alongside me! They lamented how they'd been doing so well as they waited for their order of cheesy fries. I felt it.
Fortunately, I shunned the cheesy part, but I took the fries all the same. Loaded with carbs and not especially substantial, the absolute worst combination.
I was a little better behaved after the tennis though, having a beef stew for dinner, followed by some fruit yoghurt, which was high in sugar. The yogurt wasn't egregiously unhealthy, but it's fairly dense in sugar.
I'll give myself a point for an admirable level of restraint with so much unhealthy food in my face all damned day.

Had a day shift at work today to take the rest of the deliveries, and ate fairly well. Had a protein shake for breakfast followed by a steak with veg for lunch, amid plenty of physical work, and at 6pm sharp I trucked off to the tennis! This time, the rain delays kicked in from the very start and it became a very long evening... the 7pm match ended up finishing at 11:45 pm, then the doubles match on court 1 finished at about 1am, it took me another couple of hours to get home at that time of night... so after a day of decent eating, I messed it up at the end with with some classic self-lies. Into the kebab shop for a doner with salad pack, ended up with a doner in bread with a side of chips and a bottle of juice.
An easy 3 down to a 0!

Finals day! The schedule didn't start until a good bit later today, so I took the time to get in a workout at the gym, this time I dusted off the jump rope and nailed out five rounds. Once my joints were warm, I felt pretty good! No double-unders, but plenty of high intensity stuff, crossovers, zig zags, etc... the rhythm was there, and in the 15 total minutes of rope I felt greater cardio exertion than my 30 minutes on the treadmill.
My aim is to do both of these as part of a workout from next week onward!
Then I went to the tennis and ate like a dickhead again.

Back to a normal working week today, and it reminded me how much easier it is not to eat like an idiot when you're actually keeping busy! Had a banh mi for lunch in accordance with Monday tradition, but for dinner kept it sensible with some teriyaki chicken and takoyaki, and some seaweed salad! I had some yoghurt left if the fridge from earlier in the week, and ate the lot. Again, not egregiously unhealthy, but loaded with sugar. But it's gone from the house now, and I've no intention of buying more!

Morning weigh in: 117.9kgs

Back to square one!
I somehow massively overslept this morning and woke up at 9am, so no breakfast as I sprinted out the door and jumped in an uber to work.
Didn't eat at all until about 2pm when I had some mixed nuts, then at my lunch break (4pm) I had a chicken caesar salad. I finished work and when I got home I nailed a boiled egg and some meatloaf I'd made up with lean mince and shredded carrots. I was finding myself craving that scourge of sugary fruit yoghurt, so I went to the supermarket and bought two tubs of the vegan yoghurt they sell there, which is extremely low in sugar.
I am chuffed with my efforts today in terms of diet! I nailed the three, finally!
No exercise as, after a week at the tennis, my room had gone to squalor around me, so I've spent the night doing washing, as living in a cleaner environment keeps me in a better state of mind.

A good "day 1" in the box, and the weigh in reflected it. Had a couple more slices of that meatloaf for breakfast and over a ten hour shift, was very sensible, avoiding all snacks and having a caesar salad with smoked salmon for lunch. I had a few peanuts at about 5pm and when I got home, had some more meatloaf and a boiled egg.
I fuckin flipped flopped around all evening and got into the gym with barely enough time to do my treadmill workout only to find it was hot and stuffy, and that their TV channels weren't picking up channel 9.
I've gotta be honest: after two decent sessions last week, and feeling "in the swing" with my diet, my heart just was not in this one. I thought about hammering the jump rope in the little room with the strong air con, but of course I didn't bother to bring the wireless earphones.
I had visions of getting to sleep at 1:30am yet again, and I feel like I just want to sleep and wake up not feeling like shit tomorrow. I fucked up the workout by being a potato after work, but really, I need one good sleep to get me right going ahead. Could have done both but... swings and roundabouts I guess. All the pieces never fall into place right away.

It's a steady drop in weight due to fluid flush and the fact that I've been such a pig through the holidays. Good signs, but that will slow down too. It's not hard to improve on terrible.
Had the last of the meatloaf today for breakfast along with a boiled egg. I'll have to make another one of those!
A typical day at work, some 10 hours long and physical, I had a few peanuts at mid-morning along with half an orange, then ordered some squid for a snack, only to find I'd hit the wrong button and ordered some jalapeno poppers, which are stuffed with cheese, wrapped in more cheese, and then dropped in a fryer, then served with aioli mayo.
I told myself they were low carb, which is okay on my keto regime... but I know that was silly thinking. I ate three out of the six pieces and chucked the rest. Marvellous restraint, I think. I then decided to wolf down my ceasar salad with smoked salmon before I made any stupid decision.
After work I had some pulled chicken and tuna.
Ticked all the boxes, really! Very low in carbs, leafy greens, sensible portions.
Spent an hour or so watching tennis, then got into the gym for my half hour on the treadmill. I didn't feel as light or springy as I did the last time, but still ground it out.
This is the archetype of the typical diet day that will foster success: great eating and a solid bit of cardio despite not feeling like it.

Well, my eating today was bloody shocking, really. :sad Got to work tired and hadn't eaten, which is pretty much the norm for a Saturday, and when I got there, not one, but two of my mates had just gotten back from different European holidays and had bought back Ritter Sport chocolates from Berlin. I stood no chance!
Then for lunch I ate some hot wings and some squid, before indulging in a doner and salad box for dinner and... wait for it... a big mac, which are $2 at the moment on promotion. :patsch The tennis, it gets me!
To be honest, it's not as heinous as some of my previous zero days, but it is nonetheless a zero day.

I skipped the weigh in, in a classic act of next-day-cowardice, and went into work for a short shift to do stocktake. Ate reasonably well, a scrambled egg wrap with wholemeal flatbread... a little bit of carbs, but healthy fare overall, then came home and got ready for a social game of tennis with my mates.
It was a pretty good workout! We played for two hours and I got plenty of running in, then they all decided it was time for the dreaded obligatory beers. I tried to refuse but was met with some friendly sledging, to which I folded like an origami crane.
I had about six pints and ended up eating like a complete idiot.

Overate like a bloody king after work while I watched the tennis. Mostly healthy stuff (made a massive batch of slow cooker stew), but I definitely went overboard. The other downside is that after all that food (meat & assorted veg), I just feel didn’t wanna sweat my guts out at the gym.

I fell asleep at something like 8pm last night and awoke this morning at 1am with the lights on... and of course, when I got up, switched off the lights and settled in, I couldn't get a wink! So the sleep was bad and I was under-rested for my 12 hour day.
Eating wise, I started with some of that meatloaf I like, before heading to work and having the salmon salad for lunch... Later in the day I had some hot wings, then after getting home I had a little too much low carb fare: meat loaf, slow cooker meal and two mini single egg fritatas...
Bumps me from a 3 down to a 2 for stupid portions.

Got a nice long 9 hour sleep and got off to work without a proper sit-down breakfast.
Had some peanuts in the morning and then some squid at midday, followed by a felafel salad at about 3pm. Got home and had a bowl of slow-cooker soup/stew.
Went over to the supermarket and bought some vegan (fake) yoghurt after dinner, which is low in sugar but still tastes half decent.
Did 30 minutes on the treadmill, but when I went into the open room to do some jump rope, I noticed the only other dude in the gym basically had two different rooms set up for his little exercise circuit.
Thanks maaaaaaaaaaate.
Kicked in after the treadmill.

Worked a long day, ate reasonably well, (felafel salad and some grilled chicken for lunch)... Had a big feed late though. Went to the shops for some "groceries", but ended up ordering heaps of low carb stuff for dinner. Too heavy for night time eating!
No exercise, was worried about a long Friday shift!

This is where it all went to shit.
Once again, started the day well, with good eating (once again had the felafel salad for lunch, complimented by some takoyaki). Only this time, I was given an early mark and went to a concert (Dee Snider... what a show!), and nfortunately this brought all the things it usually does; booze, bad food, bad sleep.
Which followed over into...

Saturday!
Always my worst day at work, but combine it with a hangover and it's a bloodbath.
Double zeros

Up at the early time of 7am on a Sunday for a short shift at work, was the only one there for the first hour and a bit... however, when the next guy turned up he brought an A1 massive breakfast fry up (at least the ingredients for one, and the chef cooked it up)
Had a modest serving of that, before grabbing some sweet Chili chicken from the Japanese take away.
At dinner I got pretty stupid, had some Uber eats chicken with all the fixins, not to mention massive servings.

Went to my second job and as usual, had a banh mi for breakfast, then another one for lunch.
Had a few pints after work and more Uber eats.
I am in a bad pattern at the moment!
