when he went life and death with ovill he was totally written off on esb.

since then: world champion, goodison stadium fight, ppv series with cleverley and haye and to top it all holywood star in the rocky film. cant knock it really can you.
Man i just wish Ovill didn't have to retire early. Should've been champ against Ramirez and if the Huck bout went ahead he would've had a good chance too

Bellew claims in the article :

"Eddie Hearn gets £100m together for me and offers me one more fight, what do I say? Wow, wow - that is probably what I would say. Wow, wow and then walk into the missus and say 'Eddie has come on board with £100m' and she would probably hand me divorce papers."

Yeah I bet she would, and then demand £50m of that as part of a divorce settlement.

It was from an interview and he was laughing.

After that he turns his head and says 'Who Am I fighting'

His 'best' win was Makabu.

A guy who has done literally nothing since and who's only real name on his record before the Bellew fight was Kucher who again has gone on to do nothing.
I'm sure he's absolutely devestated you don't rate him mate. He will be wiping away the tears with his £15,000,000 in his 7 bedroom suburban Estate.

Gutted he'll be

Yeah because that's how it works.

You sound like Paul Smith on twitter mate.
Yeah and Paul Smith has a fucking point. Why the fuck should he or any fighter entertain or value the opinion of a bloke on the internet that disrespect's their career all while the same bloke has never had the bollocks to step inside a gym let alone fight. If you were a mechanic you wouldn't listen to somebody who knows nothing about cars telling you that you know nothing would you.

Makabu was a very good win. Big puncher, southpaw, awkward opponent on a winning run. Is makabu world class? Probably not, but he was a favourite going into the fight and Bellew destroyed him, gotta give credit where it's due. You can pick at anyone's record except for the few greats like Ali or Leonard, anyone's record can be picked at.

Bellew has a solid body of work between LHW-CW. Proved himself world class and gave Usyk, an elite fighter a tricky and night's work and a good fight for 7 rounds, that is no small feat and deserved credit

Because boxing is a spectator sport and the opinion of the member of public affects your income. Popularity obviously affects your purse and ppv cut.

I couldn’t give a toss how well my local quick fit mechanic fits a tyre on some unknown persons car.

That is how it works though. Your saying he only beat Makabu in a Condescending manner. What the fuck have you done?

Oh yeah? What if you take your car to get fixed and the mechanic, who claims to be a professional, shows up 20lbs overweight and it turns out his whole career is built on fixing old, broken down cars with not a single world class car repair to his record? On top of that every car he has repaired has been in his home town and he's never once worked overseas. You'd probably go online to call him a bum and overrated, and rightly so

Nah that's bollocks mate. I know FAR more about boxing than Carl Froch, but that doesn't change the fact that he was a world champion and I don't box. Being good at something like a sport does not mean you are good at judging other people in the sport, or that you care to follow the sport properly. Look at some of the drivel ex footballers come out with as pundits.

I can listen to a pop singer and say "Her voice is not very good, she keeps hitting flat notes" and it still be true even though I have a truly dreadful singing voice. I am sure you've watched a film and thought "fuck me the acting there was shit" but you're not an actor.

If we worked off the basis of the Paul Smith logic, we would only have sports journalists who were ex players, so every paper would need ex pros from multiple sports to write their coverage. Chances are most of them are not great writers. You'd then need to do the same for people reviewing films or books, and the only people who could be food critics would be chefs or ex chefs etc.

I know what you're saying man but look at it from Smith's perspective. I know he's not well liked on here and I don't even really like him myself but some boxing fans are idiots. Just look at the comment that I initially replied to. The condescending tone says it all. I don't like Bellew at all and I think it's fair to say he probably over achieved. People knock the Makabu win now but an overwhelming majority on this forum were picking him to spark Bellew and Makabu was the bookies favourite going in as well. Sometimes you have to look at these at how they were perceived before the fight and not necessarily what either went on to do afterwards.

Oh agreed mate, it's stupid when people talk shit to pro athletes, but fair criticism that is not condescending or insulting should be expected from anyone who makes a living off a profession that involves fame and being paid by public interest.

I don't knock Bellew at all, and the Makabu win was good...I think it was a bit mad to begin with how much people wrote off Bellew in that, and I said so before the fight.
