Well, this thread is pretty much just going to be a circle-jerk regardless. There's a lot of good points to twitter, one of them is that it's pretty much the single website that authoritarian governments most fear, because it makes it so easy for Joe Average Citizen to film something he shouldn't, and show it to the world.Dude, a light hearted convo about twitter, and you cant stay from trying to get others how you see it though......you devalue your own words man.
SO you want to control the conversation.....in a nutshell.Well, this thread is pretty much just going to be a circle-jerk regardless. There's a lot of good points to twitter, one of them is that it's pretty much the single website that authoritarian governments most fear, because it makes it so easy for Joe Average Citizen to film something he shouldn't, and show it to the world.
What are the chances that'll get discussed, though?
I thought there would be good debates on twitter only to realize it is just hit and run stuff and there are really no debate at all.I'm also in the camp which thinks Twitter is a cancer. The system seems perfectly designed, albeit inadvertently to cause division and anger. I rarely see any discussion on there not quickly devolving into insults because the character limit makes it almost impossible to express ideas on complex subjects in anything like a suitable manner.
The checkmarks, the like system, the retweet system and the way it can be used to brigade individuals is a problem. The system isn't just a "message board", there is nothing we can compare to Twitter. Not even Facebook. Which I don't particularly like either.
Twitter can be fine if it's being used for specific pursuits you have e.g. boxing. You can follow boxers, trainers, gyms, promoters and be absolutely up to the minute on everything that's happening but even with this we've seen boxers being trolled relentlessly, to the point they've sought people out to have a straightener.
It's when you scratch beneath the surface and are exposed to the politics of the platform or the nastier side then you can see the trouble it brings. People really are arrogant with thinking that humans can have this new technology thrust onto their laps and that we can foresee the consequences of it. The genie is out of the bottle now and time will tell but I believe it brings more harm than it will ever bring good.
Dude, stop being pedantic and get into the spirit of the thread.nucleus implies cause.
twitter is extremists pushing their fantasy views into the majority.
but the cause is actual things that happened, however biased and twisted the fantasists represent it, the basic cause did happen.
they make money for corporations.Social media as a whole is a major problem, not just Twitter. It's full of misinformation from unfriendly foreign governments designed to keep America divided and angry at each other. Since the social media platforms want you on there as long as possible they only show you things you want to see. You have a society of people that only see news that validates what they already each to believe on both sides with no way to separate propaganda from actual news.
The cold war never ended, it's on and our enemies are winning because we are handing them victory
It's tweets like this that makes realize how gullible and uninformed the general public is and how easy it is to manipulate them.
Private company's owners ban individual users for violating the terms of service that they explicitly agreed to abide by as a condition of setting up their account on the privately-owned platform.
