Who do you WANT to win? (Not who do you think WILL win)

  • I want the Fighting Irish to win

  • I want the 209 to represent again

  • I just want a good, action-packed fight like the last one

  • Test to see if I can change the poll?

  • Are these options 4 and 5?

Zombie's hands and head movement are so fucking crazy now. I can't stand where he holds his hands, but I understand the reason. I'd like to see this zombie against the 145 Conor

So Edgar's days of title contention are over. Time to retire, he's not going to make noise at '35. Does 38 year old Frankie have any answers for Petr Yan in 2020? I cant see it.

I agree with that, but he can still make money if he drops the dream of getting the title back.

Yeah, but that guy has done enough and is enough of a regional hero that he can make good money doing whatever he wants in the fight game. Own a gym, give seminars, do commentary gigs, be a trainer - he can do whatever he wants. Nobody wants to see 38 year old Frankie Edgar being used as a gatekeeper and easily KOed by guys with nowhere near his talent, heart or work ethic, but who are just 15 years younger than him.

Damn, the top of FW is fire right now. I'd be happy with Volk being challenged by any of:

Zombie
Max
Zabit

And then match the other two together, put Ortega vs Yair on the same card, and whoever looks most impressive out of those four gets the next title shot. Honestly I'd probably have the Zombie up next though.

What a stacked top-six, though. Current rankings:

Volk
Max
Ortega
Zabit
Yair
Zombie (will change in a day or so).

I don't understand why Ortega is still ranked #2, though. Okay he's a beast, but he also hasn't had a win in over 18 months. And his last win was more than 2 years ago, against a faded Cub Swanson who was just starting a 4-fight losing streak. Since Ortega got that win:

  • Max has beaten Aldo, Ortega and Edgar
  • Zabit has gone 4-0, with two bonuses
  • Yair has gone 2-0, both FOTN performances against established, durable veteran contenders (one of these wins was via one of the most legendary insta-KOs the sport has ever seen).
  • Zombie has gone 2-1. Both wins earned him performance bonuses, and the loss was a FOTN that he was clearly winning until literally the last second of round 5.
That's since Ortega last won a fight, so Brian has no business being in the #2 spot. :conf

I'd kind of like to see Zabit just go ahead and get the shot so we can see Max against the Zombie. If Zabit is better than we think, cool, if not then we can get a highlight domination from the champ and what might be the best standup fight in MMA history on the undercard.

145 is a shockingly good division right now, and not looking to get worse. It's such a great size for great fights

Yeah I get why they made Conor-Cowboy, but I hate that fight. Okay it's a great stylistic matchup for Conor, but there's no upside if he loses. Cowboy doesn't have much tread left on his tyres, he's about to turn 37, and he's coming off two straight stoppage losses. He's not winning any big fights going forward even if he catches Conor.

Zombie is a bigger risk but would either produce an incredible fight, or, if Conor ran right through him, McGregor looks way stronger than he would from KO1 Cowboy who is faded and was known for choking in big fights even in his prime.

Plus of Zombie faceplanted him, that's a starmaking performance and especially in the Asian market. For a guy who can't speak English, the Korean Zombie persona/brand is very distinct, memorable and marketable. He's already a cult fighter and every hardcore fucking loves the guy, the casuals would surely enjoy him too if he beat up on Conor.

I think Max has done more than enough as champ to deserve an instant rematch with Volk before anyone else gets a shot. I know that’s not a rule of any kind, but in some situations it just seems right.

I hear what you're saying, and I don't really disagree, but I'm tired of the instant rematches unless in the case of a super close fight. That one... Wasn't. I get that Dana White or or that perception, but I think he's full of shit. I like to see these divisions keep moving. There's plenty they can do at 145, but I think it's about time to put a stop to these rematches.

Yeah, and I agree in the majority of cases tbh. I just think as he’s pretty much inarguably the greatest featherweight of all time, he deserves a rematch when he’s beaten on a decision.

Worst-case, I’d like to see them both have another fight each and then meet again (assuming they both win).

That'd be perfect. If Max gets by Zabit or the Zombie, give em the rematch.

Yep. Volk and Max fight against Zabit and the Zombie, either matchup makes sense. If Max beats Zabit/Zombie then he fights the winner of Volk vs Zabit/Zombie.

But then you have Yair lurking around. And Ortega. Division is ridiculous right now.

Good for him. Always liked RDA. Him ruining Pettis' entire career is one of my favourite fights. He was like a fucking Terminator in that one.

I like the sound of Ortega vs Yair anyway. Do all three fights.

I think I like the Zombie getting the next shot. He's been on a tear, and I don't hold the Yair KO against him because he was winning that fight pretty handily until the last second. Zabit probably needs one more good win. I think the Zombie should be the next one up.

Yeah there’s so many decent combinations from the top 5. As long as Max gets a title shot in the next 6 months I’ll just be happy watching it all play out.

Well that was an exceptionally shit Rampage performance, and I've seen quite a few shitty Rampage performances. Cut weight to make 265 and his trainer was boasting that he's in terrific shape, FFS. :patsch Is anyone actually any kind of fan of this guy at this point?

Hampage looked awful and could barely move, I'm over the moon Fedor won but you can't really gauge how good he looked considering the state Jackson came in.

Under card was decent I enjoyed the Watanabe vs Joanne fight.

Yep. Can't fucking stand that guy. Just a dimwit, arrogant bully who is not nearly as funny as he thinks he is, but is a sex pest, comes off really fucking rapey a LOT, who has phoned in his entire MMA career for the last decade and yet still apparently expects people to give a fuck about him or any of his fights. Seriously, when's the last time you saw Rampage respect the sport or the fans by showing up in shape and performing like an experienced professional rather than a fat crybaby poor sport? Fuck that guy. :bart
