Who do you WANT to win? (Not who do you think WILL win)

  • I want the Fighting Irish to win

  • I want the 209 to represent again

  • I just want a good, action-packed fight like the last one

  • Test to see if I can change the poll?

  • Are these options 4 and 5?

I'm actually a little disappointed that Blaydes wasn't able to cut Volkov to pieces in that smaller cage. Still haven't really digested what it means for the HW division

Always nice seeing recent opponents who may fight again interacting with respect.

How'd you guys enjoy the fight? Hooker did much better than I thought he would, just didn't have the gas tank or the same level of natural athleticism as Poirier. You guys reckon things would have been a bit different in a bigger cage where Hooker could use the space better?

Poirier might just be the second-best LW in the world. I'm not confident that that's true, but I can walk through an argument that any rational person would at least have to think on. Hooker impressed me. Those City Kickboxing guys know how to play some brilliant games. I was watching some of those hip feints he was putting out there. I think Hooker can beat a ton of top guys, I just think DP has become as good as you can be without having a completely neutralizing skill like Khabib.

Now I could look dumb as hell by September if Justin runs Khabib over and everything gets kind of reshuffled again.

Won't look dumb at all. Gaethje is a beast. The whole division is packed full of nothing but highly technical savage animals.

What I mean is that Justin goes in there and smashing Khabib, after DPs absolutelt best effort got shrugged off by a guy who brought no mystery to what he was going to do. Means DP ain't the second best in the division, that's all.

Styles make fights. Right now, Gaethje can KO Khabib and he still can't talk shit on Dustin. Not until he corrects the memory of what happened the last time they crossed paths, when Dustin went to war and faceplanted him. :thumbsup

I guess the difference there would be that Justin is practically a different fighter since his loss to DP or Alvarez. DP looks basically the same as then, except I think he got a little more fluid in the leadup to Khabib. If Justin goes in there and beats the breaks off of Khabib, not just some 1 punch KO, then...I dunno. I'd have a hard time now seeing him and DP as very at very different levels. Styles do make fights though.

Yeah that's a long way from a stupid stance. Personally I think that both guys are better than they were the first time around. Difference is that Poirier refined himself, whereas Gaethje reinvented himself. :thumbsup

Anybody see Tony ever getting back to title contention again? He's a 36 year old LW who just took a 5 round brutal beating where he didn't win a one minute span of the fight.

Sick of hearing about wages, are we supposed to feel sorry for guys getting 100grand a time to do what they love?
I don't know if that's necessarily the fairest way of looking at it. Some of it comes down to how much the UFC manages to bring in vs how much the fighters get, and then a look at how much of what gets brought it comes down to the fighters. It isn't as simple as "Give the fighters 50% of profitability" for sure. But, the UFC has the ability to pay fighters more money than they are, and doing so wouldn't make them broke.

I think Tony can have a few more fights around the top of the division. Even in catching that asswhooping, I think that version of Tony drowns most fighters. I don't think he beats Khabib or Justin, but I wouldn't be willing to throw down money on a fight with DP or even Conor. Yea, maybe Conor catching him early, or maybe Conor catches him, goes for the finish, and ends up in some weird brawl that winds up with him in a Peruvian necktie or something. I dunno.

I think they’re underpaid for what they do.
Maybe so but they sign the contracts.
My fear is that this will turn out how boxing has and fights don't get made because they're spending two years debating pay. Jorge signed a contract and will now sit out moaning. If someone offered me the amount they get, to do what I love or to even do what they do, id do it no bother.

I see it as the same as any other business, the owner will always make far more than his staff.

And I don't have a problem with that, but I think it is a matter of degrees. I don't want the boxing model for MMA. I love that the UFC can make things happen. That doesn't necessarily mean that the UFC can't start throwing a bit more of the money towards the fighters, and I don't hate the fighters from pushing back a bit for what they believe to be worth.

It's a negotiation that needs to happen, and I wish more fighters would stand up and make their demands known so that we can push through this process a bit more quickly. I want to see how it all works out.

Boxing’s gone too far, but on the night Canelo made $35m I think Masvidal made something like $300k.

If you were starting the world from scratch and introducing MMA and Boxing as two of your sports, nobody’s going to be suggesting a discrepancy like that.

Even if he boosted all wages by 20% and trebled the bonuses (that’d make fights more entertaining, so it’s win-win) the company’s making a fucking fortune.

The problem is that most undercard fights are wank, Joshua is making a fortune then you've fighters like dave Allen on the undercard making 8grand.

As soon as ufc start paying fighters what you guys feel is fair, fight cards will become shit, we won't see anything like the July 11th card again.
If you look at cards from the 90s they were so stacked, like ufc cards now, then fighters started demanding huge pay days and that was the end of stacked cards

Yeah, a good UFC card is light years ahead of a good boxing card. Sometimes literally every MMA fight on the main show could headline a Fight Night.
