***UFC!*** The Authentic Official Israel "The Last Stylebender" Adesanya Undefeated, Undisputed Middleweight Champion / General MMA Thread

Who do you WANT to win? (Not who do you think WILL win)

  • I want the Fighting Irish to win

  • I want the 209 to represent again

  • I just want a good, action-packed fight like the last one

  • Test to see if I can change the poll?

  • Are these options 4 and 5?

Blaydes has covid, tomorrow's main event is cancelled. Smith vs Clark the new main event.

Also apparently, since being released from the UFC Anderson Silva has been knocked back by Bellator, ONE, PFC and now the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship has come out and said they're not interested in signing him. Jesus, has this guy really taken a shit all over an incredible legacy. He's just pissed away all of his mystique these last few years. :sad

Rizin is interested. I can't say I wouldn't love seeing him come out to Michael Jackson in Japan again.

Tyson vs Anderson!

Good to see Smith get himself back on track today too. Got a lot of respect for that guy. Just the definition of a gritty, hardworking, blue collar type fighter. Seems very honest and self-aware, works his ass off to get as much as he can out of whatever talent he has, and he speaks very well. Clearly he's a lot smarter guy than he looks, too. Always happy to see that guy pick up a W.

Dana White can't seem to pay his fighter enough to retire in peace.

I'm sure Anderson Silva earned enough money to retire and live a pretty comfortable life, if he wanted to/didn't blow it all on bullshit.

You sure about that? Some of these guys have part time jobs to supplement their joke of UFC salaries.
Of every ppv event, the UFC takes at least 84% of generated revenue.

Yea. He doesn't want to stop. I think people really don't understand why most people in most sports don't go out at the most optimal time. At best, they are forced out in some team sports.

This is their life. Giving that up is a form of dying. I think it was Steve Nash that said "Athletes die twice". Fighters seem even more attached to that, because only promoters can really force them out.

It sounds like he's going to box RJJ anyway, so basically retired.

Yeah if you're a big name guy on the Patriots, you're coming to the end of your prime and there's some young buck who has a slight edge on you right now and might have 5-10 years in the league in him....... then Darth Belichick is going to throw you out onto the street in 2 seconds, and he doesn't give a fuck how many rings you've helped put on his finger. If the other guy gives him 2% extra at your position, then you are DONE son, pack your bags and GTFO the league.

Combat sports doesn't work like that. If you have a name and you want to fight, then you can fight until you're so washed that the purses you command and the venues you're fighting at become straight up depressing.

Correct. Check out the 5 or so games from the 2020 XFL season. You get a combination of people, most of whom would be considered amazing football players, but 98% of whom would be pushed out of the sport without the XFL or CFL to go to.

You can tell that they can do things that we couldn't imagine doing, but the older guys will never make it back and will otherwise be forced into some form of retirement. There won't be some more regional scene that will pay them an effective price to show up for, and they won't be able to play anymore.

Combat sports will find a place to put you until you're dead.

Conflicting rumours on whether or not Chimaev has covid. Obviously we all want him to fight, but the year end card is more stacked than most PPVs even without him anyway.

His people are adamant that he doesn't. We'll see. I only care because I want the hype train to be put to rest by an excellent fighter that can lend us all some perspective, or....you know...the other option.

I'm all keen to see him just be a meteor streaking out of the sky and annihilating everybody in two divisions.

He has to beat somebody ranked, of course. But after him walking Meerschant down and faceplanting him with his first attack of the fight, he really can't have looked any more impressive on his way into the contenders and gatekeepers. :thumbsup
