Thought he was great before he was and lost his way. Still a very good fighter and one of the main reasons I got into boxing. Remember watching that Kevin Kelly fight as a kid with my dad in the early hours.
Met him a couple of times as an adult too and he was an absolute gent both times. First time he was Xmas shopping but when he realised I'd spotted him he turned around and made a point of coming to have a chat.
Freakish power, incredible feet but believed his own hype. A shame really.
Better than some like to make out, but that's partly his own doing for being such an arrogant unlikable twat.
Detractors claim he beat bums and lost to the only good fighter he faced but that only works if you class the several world level/long reiging/future and past champions that he beat(often times demolished) as bums.
Hamed had stopped training when he fought Barrera, he was sparring from his house and basically just trying to lose weight. He had the potential and talent to be one of the best to ever do it, obviously Merv is just a bit of hater.
@nifty. Tech. Why do rate me as a hater, just because I do not think Hamed was great? If he had the potential and talent as you say, how did Barrera make him look so ordinary? Surely you don"t rate some fighters ? that does not mean you hate them.. As I have previously stated, I don"t rate a lot of fighters, but I do not hate any of them. You don"t even know me, so to make such a dramatic statement "That I am a Bit of a Hater" is ludicrous.
