I had no idea how old he was. I googled it and wow, I'm impressed. His son was on deaths door a few years ago and beat it. 101 is a fantastic age. Weird to see images of him which look like he's had work done though. A face lift on a guy of 101 years of age is odd.

I'm amazed he's still alive, l remember when he had the stroke in the 90's and I thought he'd be gone soon, now over 20 years later and he's still hanging on.

Good bet he'll reach 102 since his birthday is on December 9th. One of my favorite actors back in the day, and like many actors of that era, they changed their names to be more American. He started life as Issur Danielovitch, son of a Russian immigrant.

Actors would get more jobs if they went back to pre Americanised names.
Maybe so, but not when he was trying to break into the business.
Here's a small list of name changes for famous stars:

Lauren Bacall-----------Betty Joan Perske
Alan Alda-------------Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo

I tend to watch the movie Greedy every year around this time.

102 is a spectacular run for anybody, especially someone that lived through Hollywood's most excessive eras and spend the vast majority of his life in the public spotlight. I supposed having effectively limitless money certainly helps.

Every time death comes knocking at his door someone else stands up and says, 'I'm Kirk Douglas'. And they get taken instead.
And I'm wondering how many people will know where that comes from. I'm sure there are a lot of younger posters that have never seen that epic film to realize the reference.
